Hybrid Update
Dear Marysville Families,
Thank you for your extraordinary patience as the hybrid plan across the district has been developed. Everything is finally coming together and I'm happy to have some updates to share. I will go into more detail at our Family Meeting tomorrow night, 3/18 5:30 pm. All information and the presentation from that meeting will be shared. I will send an update during Spring Break and also during the week of March 29th.
Information for K-5 students
There will be a staggered start for the transition to Hybrid.
In-person School start for Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Thursday or Friday, April 1st or 2nd.
Since our Kindergarten and 1st Grade students have never attended school or been at school for only ⅔ of a year at Marysville, splitting the groups over two days will allow them to navigate the school, expectations and staff for the first time in a smaller cohort. We will communicate with you about your first day when we are able to share this information.
In-person School start for Grades 2-5
Monday, April 5th
Continue with CDL in the mornings for Thursday April 1st and 2nd
Teacher Preparation for in-person instruction
Friday March 19th, Monday March 29th, Tuesday March 30th and Wednesday March 31st will be asynchronous instructional days for K-5 classroom teachers
Teachers will be participating in COVID-19 safety protocol professional development and preparing classrooms for in person instruction
About 70% of Marysville K-5 students have requested to return for in person instruction
This means that very many grade levels will have a teacher that is only able to teach in person with students in the morning and afternoon. The other teacher will split between distance learning and in person.
This also means that CDL instruction will not continue in exactly the same way as it has been.
Additionally, there will be some classroom changes to keep students in the preferred model.
Schedules for Hybrid and CDL
We still do not have district guidance to share classroom placements, but we'll communicate to you as soon as we do.
Once that is shared classroom teachers will reach out to you with specific daily schedules.
Students will be assigned to either Cohort A (8:00 AM - 10:15 AM) or Cohort B (12:15 PM - 2:30 PM)
Instruction during each in person or synchronous cohort will focus on Social Emotional Learning, Literacy and Math.
When your child is in the morning cohort, they will engage in virtual activities on Seesaw, online programs and live specialist classes in the afternoon.
The afternoon cohort will do the same but in the morning before they come into school or meet with their classroom teacher for CDL.
Wednesdays will be mostly asynchronous. This day will be for teachers to meet with whole groups, small groups, Grade Level Teaming, planning and getting materials ready.
Facilities Preparations and Returning to school Logistics
Air Filtration - All classrooms have free standing HEPA air purifiers Intellipure 468 In addition to the improved filters in all of the classroom HVAC Units. See the district Ventilation FAQ for more information.
COVID-19 testing will be available in partnership with MESD at Marysville for all symptomatic staff and students that consent to the test. Testing will only be for students and staff exhibiting symptoms on site.
In the event of a positive case at Marysville:
All stakeholders will be notified by either the principal or the District.
Nurse Consultant & Multnomah County Public Health Department will determine next steps and if temporary closure is warranted. Increased symptom surveillance may be implemented in specific buildings or cohorts.
Most rooms can hold a maximum of 10-13 people. For in person cohorts of more than that number, classes will be held in the library or technology room.
In person students should only bring essential items to school with them
Backpacks and jackets will be hung on chair backs or set next to desks
Water bottles are allowed but must be filled at home
There will be outdoor movement breaks during AM and PM in person sessions
There will not be any shared playground equipment
Students will use hand sanitizer when exiting and entering the building
There will still be a whole group class meeting online on Wednesday mornings for in person and CDL classmates to connect with each other
Student changes from CDL to Hybrid
Due to the lack of flexibility because of classroom spaces, it will be impossible to accommodate all family requests for morning or afternoon cohorts.
At this time we can not add anymore students to the in person class groups.
You may reach out to administration and may be placed on a waiting list and we will call if there are any changes.
Middle School Quarter 4 Learning Choice
You should have received The Middle school survey in an email from the district. Reach out if you don’t have it to research@pps.net.
In the survey, the time given for middle school was not for our K-8 program. Our middle school students will also be attending either in the morning from 8:00 - 10:15 or from 12:15 to 2:30. PM.
More information will be coming to MS families as soon as it’s available for the Marysville program. Our model is heavily dependent upon survey results.
Our plan is that once we have a space that fits the student cohort capacity, students will remain there and teachers will rotate into the room for content area instruction. Probably two different teachers per day.
Start date for Middle School in person instruction is April 19th.
There will be a lot of changes as we move into this hybrid transition, but it will be worth it. This is part of the reopening process and we have navigated so many changes together already.
We hope to get you information specific to your classroom assignments as soon as possible. Our plan is to share that information on Friday.
Please contact us with any questions.
Warmly,
Cathy Murray
