Here's a snapshot of what is happening in our office this month! We hope you will take full advantage of the opportunities provided. Please remember that all SSS students must attend a minimum of two (2) SSS sponsored events before the end of the semester.

SSS February Workshops

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!


All workshops will be held in the Doak Hall Conference Room 119

February 4th 5-6pm “To Drop or Not to Drop”

Wondering if you should stay in that one difficult class? Come learn how to approach academics with a growth mindset, persist in challenging courses and sharpen your study skills.
February 19th 2-3:20pm “Money On My Mind”
Do you find yourself constantly trying to make ends meet? This workshop is designed to cover the following topics: how to avoid overspending, saving money, mixing money and family, and investing.
February 25th 5-6pm “Study Abroad”
Find out all about how to plan, find money, and start the application process to study abroad.

SSS CULTURAL EVENT: FIRST FRIDAY ART TRAIL

Friday, Feb. 5th, 4:30-7:30pm

FIRST FRIDAY ART TRAIL LUBBOCK

Join us for the First Friday Art Trail of Lubbock! We will check out local art galleries and enjoy dinner together.

Must RSVP by Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 5pm. Contact the SSS Office (806-742-3629) to sign up.

SSS TUTORING

We have 4 wonderful tutors ready to assist you and help you reach your academic goals! Most Math, Science, History, and English questions can be addressed. Please stop by the SSS office for individual questions about specific courses and for questions about tutor schedules.

FEBRUARY COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

1. Gear Up Mentorship Program- Mentor & tutor a 10th grader at Estacado High School 2-3 times a month. Contact alejandra.munoz@ttu.edu before February 22 to sign up.

2. TTU Institute for the Development and Enrichment of Advanced Learners (IDEAL) is looking for volunteers to help with their February Super Saturdays. Super Saturdays consists of a variety of academic enrichment classes for students in grades K-8.

Volunteer duties include greeting parents and students to make them feel welcome, and walking students to buildings around campus (will provide campus map)

Contact alejandra.munoz@ttu.edu to sign up for one of these dates: Feb. 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th from 8:30am-1:30pm

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Are you internally motivated to make a difference? Do you enjoy leading others to success? WE WANT YOU!


We are looking for SSS leaders to help start the first SSS student organization. Interested? Attend a 30-min informational on Feb. 17 from 4:30pm-5:00pm. Meet Mrs. Munoz in the SSS office.
