Carman Paw Print

October 16, 2022

Dear Carman Families,

Fall is here and with it comes cooler temperatures. Please have your student bring or wear a jacket each day - we will go out for recesses unless it is raining and we want your students to be comfortable.

Each year we have three class parties. Our first class party will be on Friday, October 28th. As a friendly reminder, students are invited to wear their "fall attire" but students do not wear their costumes during the school day. As an alternative, we have our Trunk or Treat where students are invited to dress up for the evening event. Again, please do not send your child to school in their costume during the school day. Also, per the Parkway Food Policy, students are not allowed to bring in any food or candy items to share. If the items are sent in we will, unfortunately, have to send them back home with the child, as they will not be distributed.

Thank you for your understanding -- we will have many fun fall activities for the students on Fall Party Day!

We will have flu shots available for students and staff on October 24th - please have your child's consent form filled out and sent in with them if you would like them to receive the shot.

As always, you can find upcoming important dates and events at the end of the Paw Print.

With CT Pride,

Allison

Parent Teacher Conferences

Carman Families,

Please take a moment to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences the Week of November 7th. Below you will find all grade level, specialists, and intervention teachers' links. We hope that sending one email will allow for families with multiple kids to receive the information all at the same time. Special educators will join in with the grade level teachers or will reach out to families specifically if needed. As always, if you are not able to find a time on the sign up that works for your schedule, please contact your child's teacher directly.

Playground Safety

As a friendly reminder, we want to share that when using the playground after school hours to please proceed up the hill with caution. There are children playing and not always able to see cars coming up. When able, please park down the ramp or on the front lot.

Thank you so much for your understanding.

A Message from your Carman Trails PTO

Hi Cougar Families! The PTO is still looking for some volunteers to help with class parties (10/28), bookfair (week of 11/7) and the staff conference dinner on November 10th. Please be on the lookout for the Signup Genius to post on the PTO's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CarmanTrailsPTO and future Paw Prints. We appreciate all your help, we couldn't do it without you!

ARE YOU A VISITOR TO CARMAN TRAILS? OR ARE YOU A VOLUNTEER?

We are excited to be able to welcome our families back into our schools!

Please be aware that the appropriate background checks are required for those wishing to volunteer in the school. Currently, MACHS FBI fingerprint background checks are mandated. The cost to you, the volunteer, for the MACHS fingerprint background check is $41.75. This fingerprint background check only needs to be renewed every six years provided you continuously remain an active volunteer from year to year.

Additionally, there may be other background checks as required by State Law for all Parkway School District volunteers who will be working with and/or around students.

To start the process for becoming a volunteer, you will need to visit the Volunteer Tracker website. This link will direct you to information on how to get signed up with AppGarden and how to complete all of the necessary steps in the process. This is an interactive process and you will be notified by email along the way as to your next steps.

Once you have been approved to volunteer, please reach out to the volunteer coordinator at Carman Trails, Mrs. Karen Regan. You must be approved before you can volunteer. You will receive an email notification from AppGarden when your approval has been finalized. You can reach Mrs. Karen Regan at 314-415-6104 or at kregan@parkwayschools.net

Please note the following specifics related to volunteer and visitor opportunities:

  • A Parkway volunteer is an individual who has an opportunity to be alone with a student.

  • A Parkway visitor is an individual in a school for a limited period of time who does not have the opportunity to be alone with a student.

  • Visitors and volunteers will follow the same health and safety protocols as students and staff.

  • Per Missouri Statute 168.133, those who wish to volunteer must complete a fingerprint background check through the Missouri State Highway Patrol and FBI. The cost for the background check is $41.75 and is the responsibility of the volunteer. The background check will remain current as long as a volunteer stays active. If a year passes, the volunteer will need to complete and pay for another background check.

  • Those interested in volunteering may begin to complete the App Garden (Parkway volunteer tracking software).

Cougar Community Spotlight - KINDNESS

Throughout the year, we want to celebrate and highlight students AND staff for demonstrating kindness in and out of school. Nominees, a description of their demonstration of the core value and their pictures will be forwarded to the school office; we will include the information in upcoming issues of the Paw Print as well as place the student or staff member's picture on the new bulletin board by the cafeteria.

This week we received a nomination for a 5th Grade student from a Kindergarten teacher. Her nomination stated "My class was coming in from recess as Ms. Klebolt's class was coming out. One of my students fell down and got hurt. Rahma Amira stopped to help and make him feel better. She was super sweet and really helped calm him down." What a great way to show kindness, Rahma!

If you have a staff member or student you would like to nominate for demonstrating a core value, please use the link below.

Prop S for our school

Prop S for Our School
As you may know, Parkway is on the November 8 ballot with a zero-tax-rate increase bond issue - Proposition S.
Key projects funded by Prop S would ensure more safe, secure and accessible learning environments for our students.

What is included for our school?

  • Build safe and accessible playgrounds

  • Replace 10 roof sections

  • Replace three sections of pavement

  • Replace one exterior ramp

  • Replace seven sections of sidewalk

  • Replace 10 exterior doors

  • Removal of asbestos floor, ceiling and wallboards

  • Improve ADA accessibility in cafeteria

  • Replace aging classroom technology (interactive flat panels)

If approved by voters on November 8, Prop S will fund hundreds of similar projects across all 29 Parkway schools for the next six years (2023-2028) to keep our aging buildings in good working order. Prop S will not change the current tax rate.

A Note from Nurse Connelly

Parents,

Flu season is coming up quickly and the best way to prevent influenza is with the yearly flu vaccine. Carman Trails will be offering vaccines to students and families on Monday, October 24th, from 9:45 - 11:15 a.m.

Parkway will be parenting with the Visiting Nurses Association again this year to provide flu shots to all students and families ages 3 and older. Receiving your influenza vaccine at school is not required, but it is easy and convenient. If you're interested please see the information below.

Thank you -

Nurse Connelly
