ESC Region 11 Speech-Language Pathology Newsletter
Issue 30• December 2020
Date: January 14, 2021
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Presenter: J. Scott Yaruss, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-F, F-ASHA
School-age children who stutter can face many challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Common problems include negative emotional reactions (such as embarrassment and anxiety), difficulties reading aloud in class or participating in group discussions, and limitations while interacting with peers. The purpose of this workshop is to provide clinicians with applicable, practical strategies for helping school-age children and adolescents who stutter overcome the problems associated with stuttering. Participants will come away from the workshop feeling more confident in their ability to help children who stutter and more knowledgeable about how to approach stuttering assessment and treatment in the school setting and beyond.
ASHA CEUs will be provided. The link to view the webinar will be sent to registered participants before the webinar. Register today for this informative webinar for school-based SLPs and SLP Assistants!
Evaluation and Treatment of Pediatric Motor Speech Disorders - Live Online Virtual - 26968
Date: Feb 5, 2021
Time: 9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
Presenter: Lucinda Dean, MS, CCC-SLP
The public school speech-language pathologist's caseload has varied greatly over the past decade. With more medically and developmentally complex children being served in the public schools, evaluating and treating children with dysarthria and childhood apraxia of speech is becoming more prevalent. This course will provide practical procedures for standardized and informal assessment of motor speech disorders, including dynamic assessment. In addition, evidence-based treatment of mild to severe motor speech disorders in children ages 3-21 will be provided, including the determination of appropriate strategies, cuing techniques, goals and activities to stimulate responses, and general therapy approaches to address the educational need of children.
ASHA CEUS will be provided. Register and save your seat today!
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Emergency Licensing Due to COVID-19
On November 23, 2020, the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation passed an emergency rule related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under this rule, all TDLR licensees with a renewable license that expired between August 1 and November 30, 2020, are considered to hold an emergency license valid for up to 120 days after their license expiration date.
A searchable database of all emergency licenses is now available here: https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/emergency-licenses.htm
This extra time is to allow those who are waiting for their license to be renewed by TDLR to continue working with a valid license as TDLR navigates workflow challenges brought on by COVID-19. Current license expiration dates will not change, and any late fees accrued will not be waived. All licensees should still renew their licenses in accordance with their regular expiration dates.
TDLR will not issue printed emergency licenses, and licensees are not required to post or display proof of an emergency license. Anyone needing verification or authorization of an emergency license should be directed to this webpage: https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/emergency-licenses.htm
Please note:
- The TDLR License Search database information will not reflect the emergency license, and expiration dates for the original license will not change.
- Under this emergency authorization, if your license expired between August 1 and November 30, 2020, you will still be able to work for up to 120 days after your expiration date while your renewal is being processed. If TDLR makes a final determination that your renewal application is denied, you will no longer be able to work under the emergency license.
- Due to COVID-19, TDLR is facing an unprecedented challenge with processing paper renewals and applications. We strongly encourage everyone who can renew online to take advantage of the online services. TDLR’s online renewal portal accepts all major credit cards, including MasterCard and Visa-branded gift cards.
