Have a great summer!

It is hard to believe we are wrapping up the 2020-2021 school year and what a year it has been! My favorite part of the year happened on April 5th. Seeing the car line full, having the classrooms full of students, my specialists able to teach what they are passionate about, and hearing the students giggle and scream with excitement when the swings were put back up on the playground.

I would like to thank my extraordinary staff and amazing parents for supporting our students during hybrid and the smooth transition to full day. With the entire community coming together our students ended the year on top. Our spring MAP scores showed that in math, 87% of our students scored at the 69% or above. In reading, 77% of our students scored at the 69% or above. These results are quite amazing, even during a pandemic! I’m so proud of all of the hard work that was put into this unique school year!

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing summer! I look forward to seeing you in August as we start the 2021-2022 school year.

2021-2022 Learning Model Update

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recently passed a resolution that reinforces our efforts to open the 2020-21 school year with full in-person learning. According to ISBE, beginning with the 2021-22 school year, all schools must resume fully in-person learning for all student attendance days and remote instruction be made available for students who are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine and are under a quarantine order. This information is very helpful as we continue to plan for the start of the school year. We are also waiting for guidance from the CDC and IDPH regarding COVID-19 mitigation strategies for the coming school year.

The District will present updates to the Board of Education and the community in June when this information becomes available. Families will be updated via the Board Summaries, which are released following Board meetings, and District 181 Weekly Update emails.

2021-2022 Student Placement Information

Math course and 6th grade ELA/ACE placement for the 2021-2022 school year was made available via Skyward for all students entering grades 3-8 during the week of May 24th. A separate email for Bridge registration was also sent to families. The appeal process guidelines were linked in the communication and is also available on our website. Please let me know if you have any questions.

AM/PM kindergarten placements will be shared with families via email early in the summer.

Finalized homeroom class placements with teacher assignments will not be available until August. I will update families once this information is finalized.

Sign up for free Surveillance Testing

We hope to add more students and staff to the Surveillance Testing program and encourage those who signed up to complete the testing. The more students and staff who sign up the more effective it is as a safety measure. It is free, easy and quick to both sign-up and participate. Thank you to those who are already participating in the program.

Our goal is to avoid any potential school closures by identifying COVID asymptomatic individuals, who can still spread the virus to others. We encourage all of our students and staff to participate in this quick and easy process. As we continue full in-person, this program adds another layer of protection and reassurance for our school community.

Testing kits will be distributed on the Wednesday following the week of signup.

Families sign up by logging in to Skyward and clicking on "Forms" to access the sign-up form. Please fill out the form on a desktop/laptop as opposed to mobile phone/tablet to ensure your form is received and the final checkbox is checked. There is no cost to participate.

Here is a video that explains the process. https://youtu.be/TY3aemfzzqc
