Developing a Child's Mind, Body, and Soul
May 2020
SA Parents & Families,
Please help me to send out appreciation and thanks during this first week of May to our St. Anthony School Teachers who work so hard to make our school the special place that it is. May 4th-8th, 2020 is Teacher Appreciation Week! I know it is tough as we finish up the school year this month with our at home/e-learning framework, but the Lord is continuing to work through us and I challenge everyone to continue to Find God in All Things. If you have a chance to send a note to your child's teacher this week, I am sure that they would appreciate it. You could always send them an old fashioned snail mail letter to make it special. Send it to the school P.O. Box and we will be sure to drop it in the teacher boxes (St. Anthony School, P.O. Box 789, Show Low, AZ 85902).
This month we will be finishing up the 2019/20 school year. Please check out the May School Calendar below for specific dates. Some things that I would like to point out are:
- The last week of at home/e-learning packets will be the week of May 11th - 15th. All work should be completed and submitted to the teachers by the 15th.
- The week of May 18th to 21st will be a fun week for the students. We will have special activities, games, drawings, and interactive Zoom meeting fun! A special calendar for the week will be emailed out by the 15th.
- The last day for students will be Friday, May 22nd with the teachers working through May 29th to wrap up classrooms, grades, and end-of-the-year checklists.
- A special 2019/20 school year wrap-up day will be held on Wednesday, July 8th for students and teachers to get together and enjoy a day to wrap-up the school year. More details will come later.
- 8th GRADE GRADUATION will be held on Wednesday, JULY 22nd. More details will come later.
The 2020/21 school calendar is also posted below. Our plan is to start school back up on August 12th with students back attending classes in-person. We will continue to keep you updated on any changes or guidelines that we will need to follow.
The school office will continue to be open from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. this month. Please feel free to stop in or call if you have any questions.
God Bless you and your families this month!

FOOD DRIVE for the Navajo Reservation
Dear parents and students,
Welcome to week 7 of this insane situation. I’ve thought a lot about why many around the White Mountain area aren’t considering the situation as grave as people in some areas are. I think the reason has to do with our lack of cases. Here in Lakeside where I live, we have no cases, yet Phoenix is seeing hundreds. I thank God we live in a rural area where we are not as impacted by the physical disease as other areas... which brings up a huge need for food on the Navajo Reservation.
The Navajo Reservation has been hit hard, even though it is remote. Weeks ago, the virus was introduced to a small town near Kayenta by churchgoers who had attended a conference in Phoenix. Without even knowing it, these virus carriers had given it to other Dine (the people). Now it’s grown to almost 3,000 cases; while most cases are mild, more than 100 souls have died.
What can I do? you ask. We can collect food for these people who need it so desperately!!! The reservation has had to isolate itself because it’s been hit so hard, disrupting the flow of food and water deliveries to all reservation areas, but especially to those small towns, ranches and homesteads in very out-of-the-way areas. The tribal chairman’s office is asking for donations to be given to his office – he and his staff will distribute them to families, elderly folk, homeless – EVERYONE!!! Granted, what we collect won’t come near to solving the problem. But we can be a small part of the solution! And we can show that we care!!!
Just like the collection procedure for our food drive for the Love Kitchen and Meals on Wheels, would you please bring your non-perishable cans and boxes to the bed of Mr. Yorksmith’s white truck parked in the school/church parking lot? This collection will begin next Monday, May 11 and continue for two weeks through May 22 although the food we collect will get to them every week.
Thank you for helping our neighbors!
