Welcome back to what will be a busy and exciting school year! Freshman are just finding their footing, while sophomores have finally figured it out. Juniors are concentrating on their GPA's and their futures, while seniors are trying to put it all together to graduate and move on to bigger and better things. Planning and decision-making have become key issues for you. To help you and your parents or guardians plan the year, the Counseling Department will provide a series of newsletters summarizing important dates, activities, announcements, and scholarships. We encourage you to be aware of important deadlines and to take advantage of the visits by representatives and recruiters from colleges, career schools, the armed services, and major employers.

Virginia Military Institute invites juniors and seniors to their overnight open houses held November 3-4, 2017, February 9-10, 2018, March 2-3, 2018, and March 16-17, 2018. COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS WORKSHOPS/OPPORTUNITIES
PGCPS is hosting workshops for all students in grades 7-12 who are interested in playing sports in college. Seminar topics include: NCAA Eligibility Center Information, NAIA Eligibility Information, How to pay for college with athletic and/or other scholarships, and Information regarding careers that require a college education. Youth @ Work/SYEP 2018 Job Readiness Training Program, in collaboration with the Prince George’s County Summer Youth Enrichment Program for students ages 15-19, is hosting Q & A sessions at Prince George’s Community College on November 18 and December 16 at 10am. The National Security Agency offers high school students the opportunity to work via a work-study program or Vo-tech program in their senior year. The Washington, DC Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee is accepting students who possess strong math and science skills and are interested in an apprenticeship in an electrical trade. All apprentices receive pay and health benefits throughout the three or five-year programs. Graduates of the five-year program can earn up to $84,800/year plus benefits.
