The Cougar Pounce
staying connected @ShuksanMS
April 19, 2020
Tomorrow, Monday 4/20, teachers will send out learning engagements connected to new content standards. Because assignments will address new standards, we expect students to do their best and complete the work.
Teachers are eager to provide feedback. We want to help students grow in skill and knowledge. Again, we understand each family has unique circumstances and students will not be penalized if they are unable to complete assignments.
If your child has trouble with assignments, technology or anything else, please email any of their teachers. We are committed to helping with grace and compassion.
In the spirit of helping, here are a couple of links that you might find useful:
This link will take you to a webpage containing some tutorials on how to use apps like OneNote and Teams. And here is the link to submit if you have any tech challenges (hardware, internet, etc...)
Stay healthy,
Matt Whitten
Matt Whitten

Counseling Available for Students and Families
We want parents to know that the counseling teams at SMS are still providing services and are here to support students and families. Please reach out to us for anything you would normally seek help for. The best way to contact us is via email.
Let your student know you are there for them and that this time of uncertainty will end eventually. They will need time to process it all, and it hits everyone at different times.
Please go here for more information from our counseling staff, Mr. Giles, Ms. Cowan and Ms. Besson.
Online Book Fair Ends Today!
You can have books delivered free to your home with a $25 purchase. The Online Book Fair ends today, Sunday (4/19). You can access the Scholastic Store by clicking here. You can also enter the fair through the library website.
Thanks to all who have purchased books. These purchases also benefit our school! Questions? Please ask our librarian, CJ Fisher.
Happiness Tip from ELL Teacher, Sarah Ferris
Want to add some happiness in your day? One of my favorite workouts is Zumba! We have been offering free Zumba classes at Birchwood and Shuksan for the past 4 years.
If you are interested in being added to our Facebook Messenger group, please email me here. The classes are usually Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at 5:30pm. They are 60 min. but feel free to stay for as much or little as you’d like. All dance experience welcome.
We will provide you with a Zoom code—but rest assured, this is a different kind of Zoom meeting!
Thanks, Sarah Ferris
