Student & Family Update
April 29, 2022
September 23rd, 2022
Good morning everyone!
I hope you have had a great week and have something fun planned for the weekend.
This week we had a whole school assembly and talked about how students and staff can use the three building blocks of our school community in order to continue to make MTRS a great place to learn:
I am part of this community
I am accountable for my actions
I can contribute in a positive way
Additionally, during the assembly students and staff were introduced to the student leaders of the NHS and Key club and were also given an overview of the Mohawk Trail Equity Alliance club and their meeting times and initiatives.
Finally, AD Lilly introduced sports captains for the fall season.
Next week we will hear from the Student Council about their plans for the upcoming Booster Week and I will share plans with the community so that everyone can be a part of our celebrations.
Best wishes
Chris

Student Council Updates
Booster week is coming...11-14th October
The Student Council is busy organizing the upcoming Booster week at MTRS. As part of the week's activities they are planning the world famous MTRS bonfire and are in need of donations....
Do you have materials that could add to the bonfire?
Student Council has started collecting wooden pallets on the eastern driveway of the school and are looking for easily burned materials, no big logs. The fire will last at most 1 hour, so nothing too big to burn.
Anyone interested in donating materials/ pallets to burn, please contact: rmastorakis@mtrsd.org.

Outdoor Advisory Updates
Pollinator Garden & Elementary Enrichment
Students from the Key Club helped plant a new pollinator garden during the first week of school. Students had to dig up grass, fill the space in with compost, make a plan for planting, plant and then water. They did an amazing job and we planted around 30 pollinator friendly plants including bee balm, a butterfly bush and coneflowers. A big thanks to all the students who helped and to the following community members for donating plants: Joe Oliverio, Shelburne Farm & Garden, and Kristen Howard. Make sure to swing by the varsity softball field by the D entrance to check it out!
Elementary Enrichment Programs
Our fall programs are in full swing and students are enjoying robotics, coding, tennis and archery. These programs are open to all four schools in our district and the students are in grades 3-6. And a big thanks to the Wilson Family for donating tennis rackets for our new program. Here are some photos of them enjoying being on our MT campus.

Courtyard Project/ Outdoor Learning Space
Our school community has expressed interest in converting one of our interior courtyards into usable classroom space. This past week Mrs. Trombley asked Aubuchon Hardware for an Adirondack chair donation and we have 20 brand new chairs thanks to the manager Steve Wells! In addition, some pumpkins were provided by Wyatt, a middle school student who sells them locally. Pictures to come soon. Check out this newspaper article about Wyatt’s pumpkin stand; MTRS is proud to support future business owners:https://www.recorder.com/12-year-old-takes-over-family-pumpkin-stand-in-Colrain-47769752

Please welcome some of our new staff:
Stacie Beck
Hello Mohawk families
My name is Stacie Beck and I am excited to be the newest member of MTRS science department. This year I am teaching 9th grade Biology, Marine Science and co-teaching Bioethics. I look forward to bringing our students out into the community to see science in action through outdoor exploration, field trips and guest presenters. My goals are to make sure students feel prepared for the Biology MCAS and to keep science classes engaging, accessible and relevant. I will be teaching optional MCAS prep for 9th graders during extended period beginning in October, so I hope to see your freshmen there. I’ve been quite impressed with the kindness and curiosity I’ve seen in Mohawk students so far and I can’t wait to see what they discover next! Please reach out with any questions or just to say hello via email at sbeck@mtrsd.org.
Laura Rubinaccio
Hello! My name is Laura Rubinaccio. I am excited to be teaching mathematics to the MTRS 7th graders this year. I have been teaching for over 12 years and I have been at MTRS since 2010. In that time, I have taught both high school and middle school mathematics. This is my first year teaching 7th grade and it has been great getting to know the 7th graders! My goal is to support students in math by making math engaging and encourage students to collaborate, persevere, and take risks. I have been impressed with the work the 7th graders have been doing so far and I’m excited to see what this year brings! I am available via email at lrubinaccio@mtrsd.org if you have any questions. I hope you all have a wonderful year!

Athletics News
Updates!
Athletics
It appears that the hot days are behind us, and it is really starting to feel like a “fall” athletic season here at Mohawk Trail! All of our sports teams saw action this past week, and it all culminated with an exciting victory for our middle school football team under the lights Thursday night! It is incredibly encouraging to see a full parking lot and a loud crowd supporting our Warriors! The student-athletes greatly appreciate all of the support they have been getting from the community and staff!
The Mohawk Trail Swag Shop is now officially open!!! A link to the online store can be found on the district home page in the very near future. Sport specific shops are also starting to open up, and those links are being shared with coaches and players. The links can also be found on the Mohawk Trail Athletics Facebook page! Feel free to like and follow for updates about Warrior Athletics!
Finally, our “Community Warrior” program is in full swing, and community service requests are steadily coming in. These requests will be shared with coaches to help facilitate getting our student-athletes into our communities and helping make a difference! Please reach out to District Athletic Director Greg Lilly to find out more about this program.
