From Mrs. Kalis
We have made it through the first full week of school! It has been wonderful having students back at Renner! Please reach out if there is anything we can do to help your child have an amazing experience at Renner!
Thank you for attending Parent Orientation last night! Our attendance was lower than we hoped with only 47% of parents attending. If you were unable to attend, teachers will be reaching out to provide you with important classroom information. Parent involvement is very important to us, so we hope to see you at future events.
Each week you will receive a newsletter from the Renner office summarizing upcoming building events and items that are essential for the month. Teachers will communicate more regularly regarding specific events for their particular learning opportunities, which you will learn about as the year progresses. You can also find information and upcoming dates on the Renner website.
Congrats, August Student Agents!

Park Hill School District Updates
School Start Times
Based on overwhelming feedback from our Park Hill parents, staff members, students and community members, we decided not to change our start times for the 2019-2020 school year. However, we still have challenges due to the nationwide shortage of bus drivers. In addition, while costs for transportation increased sharply over the last few years, state funding for transportation has not kept up. Because we have some money in our reserves, this gap in funding is not an immediate crisis, but we cannot keep taking money from the reserves indefinitely for this and other costs.
The district has an advisory committee, which will take the findings from our Sleep and Start Times work group and make some recommendations to the district and the Board. We will also ask for more public feedback to inform the Board as it makes its decision. In addition to an in-person public feedback meeting, we will continue to get your feedback using our public engagement web site, Park Hill Listens. To get the latest information and give us your feedback, go to https://www.parkhilllistens.com/school-start-times.
PTA Information
PTA is a major contributor to student field trips, grade level t-shirts and cultural arts activities. PTA is a great opportunity for families to get to know more about our school and provide support to students. Be sure to visit the PTA table at Back to School Night. Membership forms will be available or you can join on the Renner PTA website HERE.

PTA School Directory
Renner’s PTA publishes a school directory (Buzz Book). If you do not want your child’s or family’s contact information (phone number and/or email) included in the student directory, you had the opportunity to opt-out of the publication at Back to School Night on August 12. If you were unable to attend Back to School night, please contact your child's teacher or the school office at 359-4350 to opt out.

Safety Drills
Student safety is a top priority at Renner and safety drills are practiced every month. There are specific procedures followed to ensure the safety of students and staff in the event of an emergency. All schools in the Park Hill School District have emergency plans in place.
Each school year we will conduct the following safety drills with our students:
- Fire Drills - one each month
- Earthquake Drill - one in the fall
- Tornado Drills - one each semester
- Intruder Drills - one each semester
Our staff have been trained on these drills, and will delicately discuss the emergency procedures for all drills in the classroom. Please know that each teacher will approach their class discussions with care and consideration of all students.
