It is located in the historic city of Agra in northern India. It is called the Red Fort because of it's red sandstone walls that are over 70 feet high. It was built in 1565 by Mughal emperor Akbar, and was used as a military base and a royal residence. It is important to India's history because of it's representation of the architectural advancement of the Mughal reign in India, and is an important part of India's history.
