1. Teacher Appreciation Week!
Thank you to all our teachers and staff for your tireless efforts, day in and day out, supporting our students. We are thankful for you!
2. Student Shout Out: KMS Solve for Tomorrow Team on the News!
2020-21 has been a challenge! The KMS Solve for Tomorrow team sees community concerns as an opportunity to innovate and make the Ocean State a safer place.
Team members were interviewed by WPRI-TV Channel 12 News on Tuesday, April 27th. These KMS problem-solvers designed a fully functioning mobile app to inform and warn the public about dangerous rip currents. Their app harnesses live buoy data to help beach patrons use wave height as a warning for rip current activity. The app provides excellent information about spotting, avoiding, and surviving a rip current emergency. In addition, these engineers built a rescue device that uses air pressure to launch a float 50 feet across waves to a distressed swimmer.
The Samsung Corporation is sending KMS students Charlotte Arsenault, Jacob Betres, Hazel Bradley, Marissa Cabral, Samantha Campbell, Luke Daniel, Ellie Donovan, Elizabeth Dunlop, Lucy O'Brien, Lily Parisi, Brigitta Reich, Zahra Sheikh, Avery Walsh, Eliza White and their coaches Mary Cabral and Pat Fillipino a $15,000 prize package to recognize innovative solutions.
3. Summer 2021 COZ Summer Camp
4. RI Healthy Schools Coalition - May 2021 e-newsletter
Here’s the May E-Newsletter. Please read about the recent USDA school meals announcement and ways to become a better advocate for healthier school meals for kids. They have recognized May Mental Health Awareness Month with more webinars from RISAS and are promoting several end-of-year activities/programs to keep students engaged all the way through June 25th (last day of school). Plus a quick turn-around Farm-to-School mini-grant opportunity which could provide $1,500 to help develop and implement a project from now until the end of 2021.
5. Advanced Course Network: Summer 2021 and 2021-2022 School Year Offerings
RIDE has expanded their offerings in the Advanced Course Network (ACN) and has a variety of enrichment courses for all ages. Students in grades 8-12 can create their own account, while parents/guardians will need to create an account for students in grades K-7. Many thanks to Nicole Lyons, College and Career Coordinator at Mt. Hope, for creating this video about the ACN. Please visit the EnrollRI website for more information and to register.
