Preparing and Educating for Success! 4/4/2020
Recent Updates
Dear FHS Families,
I hope this newsletter finds your family healthy and safe. I emailed earlier this week letting you know that we would keep you updated on how the extended school closure will roll out.
The district focus is to Review/Reinforce/Enrich while maintaining Relationships. We will not be giving traditional grades during school closure. Students will focus on reviewing objectives for which they have not yet demonstrated proficiency, reinforcing skills that have already been learned, and receiving enrichment opportunities to explore personalized learning. The staff will focus on addressing the specific needs of each student.
Listed below are some of the details and expectations we have set forth for this time:
We are recommending that students spend about 2 hours on each subject throughout the week. We have staggered the time that these activities will be shared to insure that you can fit them into your family schedule.
Review activities, lessons, and projects will be posted by our various departments as follows:
- Mondays: PE, social studies, math, theater, agriculture, engineering, art, & leadership
- Thursdays: business, foreign language, English, science, music, & FACS
- Students attending Hart Career Center will get updates from HCC and counseling. HCC is still working on their plan.
In addition, Teachers will:
- Communicate with parents once per week
- Communicate with students two-three times per week (teachers will specifically focus on communicating with their seminar students, but will also be in touch with their other students as they post materials for their classes)
- Students without a seminar have been assigned to other teachers
- Post materials once per week
- Be available via email from 2-3pm Monday-Friday
- Communicate specific information with student in an AP, dual credit, E2020 and, Launch courses
Teachers will be notifying me of students that haven't responded to their communication and Josh Pierce or I will be following up with those students. Teachers will also be inquiring if students have access to the internet. We will have a limited number of hot spots available in a couple of weeks and will need to know who needs one. If your student is having technical issues with their Chromebook, please email Dan Hedgpath at dhedgpath@fulton58.org.
Remember that the District has a COVID-19 tab on our website, and I've also included several links below that will lead you to additional resources. I've attached below the 9-12 resource sheet for students that do not have internet access.
We will continue to evaluate this plan and may make necessary changes as we progress through this extended closure. Our staff is also meeting regularly to discuss end of the year traditions and ceremonies and how this closure will affect them. This is an unprecedented time and we appreciate your grace and patience as we work through this unique semester together.
