Birds Teach Students About Animal Adaptations
Students in Mrs. Piknick and Mrs. Krystofolski's classes practiced reading, notetaking and presenting their information while learning about owls and other birds of prey. They loved discussing the similarities and differences they could find between penguins and birds of prey.
Dissecting Pellets
Students used tweezers and magnifying glasses to dissect owl pellets.
Sorting Bones
The children sorted the bones they found using bone identification charts.
Assembling Skeletons
The highlight of the day may have been gluing down the skeletons they found and assembled.
Culminating Activity
Finally, as a culminating activity, students wrote about birds they "discovered." The purpose was to describe the bird's adaptations, and how those adaptations help the bird survive in its habitat.
