Tech Tidbits
During the fall when the weather is damp and cold is the perfect opportunity for our students to LEVEL UP! Keep your student actively engaged in programs that promote critical thinking skills and creativity. Hour of Code.org has a plethora of games and activities that teach even our youngest coding skills for the computer. Kodable is a great game to start with students PreK to second grade. Hour of Code has everything from Mine Craft to Star Wars for our 3-5 graders. Following directions, problem solving, serial order of events are all addressed through these fun and exciting sites.
Keep in mind that technology is not just for gaming but also a tool for communication. During the holiday season its always fun to reach out and catch up with friends and family. Allow students to FaceTime, Skype and email their grandparents and other loved ones that may live far away. Show off their art work, or have Uncle Joe read them a bedtime story. This is also a great time to model for your student good Digital Citizenship. Show them how to be safe online and talk to them about good internet safety. When is it okay to be on Facebook? What is okay to post online and what isn't? These are all questions that will help open up dialogue between you and your student about life on the World Wide Web.
