BOILER VISION
BUILT ON TRADITION, PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
A New Year at BBCHS!
A Letter from Superintendent, Dr. Scott Wakeley
The BBCHS teachers and staff have been working throughout the summer and most recent weeks to ensure that this school year be one of the best. Student success is a big motivation behind our curriculum development here at BBCHS and our recent addition of Boiler Block is just one way that BBCHS is looking to guarantee that our students are college and career ready by the time they graduate. The Boiler Block has been added to schedules to improve the social and emotional learning of our students as well as provide additional support for all academics. It is absolutely essential for our students to leave BBCHS prepared to enter their next phase of life, whether that be the world of work, military service, community college or university.
I am thrilled that BBCHS has been built on the traditions that are held in such high regard, and keeps preparing for the future by being current with the best teaching and learning practices. All of this ensures that every student succeeds - academically and social-emotionally. Our continuous improvements at BBCHS help ensure our high standards of growth and learning as well as create well rounded community members.
As superintendent, I am committed to unfolding the potential of every student at BBCHS, and I value the partnership between BBCHS and our surrounding community. I look forward to another record breaking school year here at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School.
Sincerely,
Dr. Scott Wakeley
Homecoming Week at BBCHS!
BBCHS Teachers attend Yale for SEL training
BBCHS formed a Social Emotional Learning committee a year ago to discuss the need for additional improvements to the BBCHS SEL offerings. Ms. Bart, Mrs. Jasmin, Mrs. Swank, and Mr. Tingley all went to Yale to attend a conference dedicated to understanding and encouraging emotional intelligence. The training was August 8-9 with the first day about identifying all of the reasons that emotions matter in schools. Schools that have implemented the training have seen an 11% increase in academics as well experience a more positive school culture. The second day of training was dedicated to learning how to implement the 4 anchors of emotional intelligence which include the following:
- A charter: This is a student created mission statement about how we want to feel at BBCHS.
- A mood meter: This is a tool to help people identify how they are feeling, and then provide them with strategies to have a more positive outlook on their feelings.
- A meta-moment: This tool helps people to pause between stimulus and reaction so they can react appropriately to different emotional triggers.
- The Blueprint: This is a conflict resolution tool to help people move past conflict and cultivate more positive relationships.
Upon returning to BBCHS, these teachers have held conferences with their fellow colleagues about the importance of SEL and how to implement different aspects into their every day teaching.
BBCHS Athletic Hall of Fame Induction of Mr. Bill Gamble
