FFA Members Attend National FFA Foundation Board Meeting
From Mr. Kaufman . . .
"Our program was invited by the National FFA Foundation Director to provide two services: 1. They always like to hear success stories of programs throughout the country and how the over $13 million dollars they were able to secure last year in donations affects the FFA members. It was a feel good for the donors and a compliment to our students and our program to be recognized for our accomplishments in a short time. 2. They also wanted to hear from me and my students how they can better use their resources for FFA members. They wanted us to tell them how we use some of the resources that they have paid for over the past few years, and they wanted an honest and real opinion of how they can do better. Our students represented the FFA and Beech Grove FFA with poise, confidence, and insight that made me proud. Our students split up and sat at different tables to mix with and rub elbows with the members of this board. One by one, they shared their stories to the group and talked to the people at the tables about how the FFA has impacted their lives. They also participated in the discussion of how to move into the future for the FFA and how to reach the millennial generation."
Representatives from many large companies are members of the Foundation Board, i.e., Dow AgroSciences, Archer Daniels Midland, Tyson Foods, Ford Trucks, DuPont Pioneer, Monsanto, and John Deere, just to name a few!
Two students from each grade attended the Foundation meeting: Seniors: Abigail Strahla and Allison Merritt; Juniors: Daniel Newton and Elizabeth Strahla; Sophomores: Lillian Ferguson and Joseph Stewart; and Freshman: Faith Wolfe and Joseph Petree.
THE CRUCIBLE
The Crucible is a dramatization of the infamous Salem Witch Trials that took place during the late seventeenth century. Set in the 1692 Puritan town of Salem, Massachusetts, this 1953 Tony award-winning drama captures the atmosphere of fear and mass hysteria that results when the town is besieged with accusations of witchcraft. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible as a direct attack on McCarthyism — when the House Un-American Activities Committee began prosecuting alleged communists in the early 1950s — equating it to the paranoia and political manipulation that took place in the Salem Witch Trials from nearly three centuries earlier.
BGHS' MCINTOSH AND BLAYLOCK PERFORM WITH CHOIR
From Mr. Dean . . .
As members of the all-state choir, Elijah and Hanna were able to learn from one of the leading conductors and composers of choral music in the United States, Z. Randall Stroope. Dr. Stroope is the director of choral studies at the Oklahoma State University and regularly tours internationally as a clinician and festival conductor. As if that were not exciting enough, the Indiana all-state choir was chosen by Dr. Stroope to give the worldwide debut performance of his newest piece, Vesuvius. Congratulations to both Hanna and Elijah! You have represented our school very well."
Congratulations, Elijah and Hanna!
