How can students be referred for gifted screening?
A teacher or a parent may refer a child for gifted screening. If your child exhibits gifted behaviors and is performing above level, you or your child’s teachers may refer your child as a good candidate. The fall testing window opens October 3rd and closes October 31st.
Go to Goochland County Schools Gifted Page. Here you will find the Gifted Referral Process and the Initial Referral Form. This form is due to Randolph Elementary by 3pm on October 31st.
Please contact egemmill@glnd.k12.va.us with questions.
Important Information:
- If you need more car tags please email roadruunners@glnd.k12.va.us *you need them for car rider, after school activity pick ups and in case of an emergency (this will help with safety & efficiency in case of an emergency)
- It is time for Destination Imagination! Permission forms are due to Mrs. Gemmill by October 7th. Check out the flyers below to learn more!
- For those attending after school/evening activities (ie: book fair, chorus concerts etc), RES students (past and present) must be accompanied by an adult. Our events are for currently enrolled RES families. Thank you for your help with this, as we begin having many of these fun events!
- Save the date for parent/teacher conferences on October 24th. Teachers will share a sign up in the upcoming weeks. Conferences are from 12:00 - 7:30pm for your planning purposes. *the last conference for most teachers will be at 7:00pm.
- November 8th (Election Day) is a remote learning day for students. More info to come as we get closer.
Remember the cafeteria is no longer taking cash. Please go to MyPaymentsPlus to add money to your student’s lunch account if needed.

PTA NEWS
RES PTA is looking for a way to show our amazing staff appreciation throughout the year. One way we hope to do this is by "STOCKING THE LOUNGE." For our fall stock the lounge please drop off paper plates, napkins, plastic utensils, throwaway coffee cups/lids, waters, sodas, snacks, coffee pods, fruit, non perishable creamers, crackers, candy....ANYTHING! It can be a fun fall theme or just your favorite treat. (Individual bags of snacks will allow us to preserve what you donate). All items can be turned into the front office. Please be sure the item is marked for "Stock the Lounge" and everything is sent in by October 3rd. Thank you for showing our RES staff your support!
We Got Spirit, yes we do! NOW THAT THE WEATHER IS CHANGING, IT'S THE PERFECT TIME TO ORDER YOUR NEW ROADRUNNER SPIRIT WEAR. ITEMS ARE SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO YOU AND THE PTA RECEIVES PROCEEDS FROM YOUR PURCHASE!

UPCOMING 5th GRADE GALLUP POLL
RES Families,
We will be administering the Gallup Student Poll during the week of October 10th-14th, measuring Hope, Engagement and Well-being among GCPS students in grades 5-12. This national survey is completely anonymous but will provide invaluable data as we continue our pursuit of the goals expressed in the Board's Strategic Plan.
Randolph Elementary will administer the survey during school hours on Thursday, October 13th to our 5th grade students. The survey consists of 20 questions, takes about ten minutes to complete, and does not ask for personally identifiable information.
If you are interested in learning more about the Gallup Student Poll, please visit https://www.gallup.com/education/233537/gallup-student-poll.aspx or reach out to your child’s school. If you want to opt your child out of the Gallup Student Poll, please call the school or email Krystle Demas, RES Survey Coordinator, at kdemas@glnd.k12.va.us.
The feedback from this survey is extremely valuable as we continually work to provide our students with the best experience possible. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Did you know that absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year? Half of the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school, making themselves chronically absent. Please have your students attend school unless they are sick, and if they are absent, communicate this with the front office at roadrunners@glnd.k12.va.us.
A Fire-Rescue Show is planned for Saturday evening, October 8th, starting at 6 p.m. at Goochland High School in the back parking lot. We are planning an evening of fire and EMS demonstrations for our citizens and children, also the kicking off of Fire Prevention Week. A small fireworks show is planned for the end of the evening. This is a great opportunity to promote community risk reduction, while showcasing the department. Please consider coming out and spending an evening with your local Firefighters and EMS providers.
Parents’ Night Out sponsored by the Goochland High School Drama Department
- Friday, October 7th 6-9 pm
- Grades K-8th
- GHS Auditorium
- $25 per child
Ready to unwind after the hectic first month of school? You get to enjoy a night out while your kids have a night of pizza and old school fun. Plus, you’ll be supporting a great cause-the Goochland Drama Department. Now that’s a win/win. Enjoy an evening out while your kids have a pizza and fun filled game night! We will have games for all ages from playground games to video games.
