Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
AHOY, PIRATES!
Good Morning! Some weeks the Log just writes itself. As they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” As we continue our individual kindness challenges throughout the district, let us follow the example of our children found in the photo below and many others.
With that, I submit the Captain’s Log! #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot #finishstrong #leanin cje

ANNOUNCEMENTS
District Commericial Shoot: Mr. Brandon Warden of PCMS will visit each school to take action shots of teaching and learning and of students involved in arts and athletics. Please ask the students to ignore him , if he comes into an area where they are going about their day. He is trying to capture the essence of who we are. If you have video footage of an interesting project or school event, please send it to him via email. Make sure your principal knows what you are sending to ensure it is something he/she would like to have shared. Copy him/her in the email to Mr. Warden. i.e., Mr. Greenslade, Hook TV should have plenty of footage. Mr. Lewis, photography class may have some footage.
Letters of Intent: Thank you for submitting your letters of intent. Those who failed to submit their letters will need to submit their letters of resignation or retirement by noon Monday to give us an opportunity to seek high-quality faculstaff for our students. Principals have been in contact with those in question. Our count is now <3. Great job, everyone. We are looking forward to the 2019-2020 school year. This year will mark our highest return rate during my tenure.
Calendar Committee: The calendar committee met Thursday to develop the 2019-2020 school year calendar. I would like to thank the committee for a job well done. We used the Hancock Co. Calendar as the parent calendar and made a few modifications to make it a Pirate calendar. The calendar will be presented to the board for approval at the February 12 board meeting.
The calendar is the domino that falls to make next year start to come together. For example, we cannot issue contracts until we have an approved calendar. Hence, the importance of this committee coming to concensus around a workable calendar is essential to planning for next year. .

NAEP: In February, all of our K-8 schools will participate in the NAEP (The Nation's Report) assessment. Please make sure our 4th and 8th grade students understand the importance of doing their very best as this is the measuring stick our country uses to determine the effectiveness of education in our states. MS has been improving over the years, and I believe it is, in part, due to our students' participation. Practice items on the NAEP website will make great bellringers. #fedupwith50

EXCELLENCE MARKS THE SPOT
First Class Innovations Program @ PCMS Big Hit!!
The students in the independent studies class at PCMS have named the class "First Class" to connect with the type of learners they are and the trailblazing work that they are doing. 6-8th grade students have selected a variety of Edgenuity courses to study with the expectation that they will present what they have learned at a spring symposium. The students are working hard and have already started using what they have learned. In the photos below, students were working together to help each other learn Spanish, French, video game development, etc. The students say they love having some control over what they are learning and indicate they intend for this to be successful so they may continue the program next school year. Thanks go out to Mrs. Corley, Mrs. Posey, Mr. Nelson, and Dr. Bellipanni for making this such a huge success. #eXcellencemarksthespot
