Welcome Back to School Option 1 Students!

On Tuesday, February 23, we will welcome half of our Option 1 (Face-to-Face) students back to the building! On February 25, we will welcome the other half! Please carefully read through this newsletter to ensure you are prepared for the upcoming return to school. Note: The Hybrid Cohort Assignments apply to Option 1 students only. All Option 2 students will continue with remote/virtual learning only. Below is a link to the daily schedule and updated school calendar.

Hybrid Cohort Assignment: If your student's last name begins with A through K, they have been assigned to the Tuesday/Wednesday Cohort. If their last name begins with L through Z, they have been assigned to the Thursday/Friday Cohort. The Cohorts indicate the days students will be attending school in person. We will provide transportation to students who are attending their OLHS classes in person. Additionally, Option 1 students will have full access to transportation to and from their home high school, ATC, and the Tech Center.


Before returning to school, Option 1 students should:


  • Full charge their Chromebook

  • Know room numbers for each class and the block

  • Know their bus number, bus stop, and pick-up time

  • Bring a face mask and wear it properly at all times (covering nose and mouth)

Moving Throughout the Building

All returning students should use the link below to watch a video demonstrating how they should move throughout the building to ensure appropriate social distancing. This is important!

Do You Need Bus Information?

You can find your student's bus information in ParentVue or StudentVue. Under Student Information, you will see the bus number, bus stop, and pick-up time. If you cannot access the information in ParentVue/StudentVue, or have a question about transportation services or a bus schedule, email: VBCPS Bus Stop or call Transportation Dispatch: 263-1545 (After-hours dispatch: 263-2949).

E-hall Pass Overview

We will be utilizing the same electronic hall pass used before the closure of the school last March. Please use the link below to watch an overview of how it works.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up

If you choose to drive your student to school and/or pick them up after school, please follow Schumann Drive's signs for Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up. You will enter the school grounds near the marquee and proceed to the student drop-off/pick-up area located in the student parking lot. We will have staff members outside to direct you on whether or not to park and wait for a signal to release your student (or pick them up). Please note that no student will be allowed to enter the building before 7:00 a.m. Here is a link for student drop-off/pick-up to provide you with a picture to help you understand. School dismisses at 2 p.m., and the afternoon pick-up is in the same location as drop-off.

Student Sign-in and Sign-out

Please use the link below to access information regarding attendance procedures. Attendance procedures will be paperless to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Note: 9th and 10th-grade students must have parents come into the building to sign students out at the security desk. Bring a phone to use the QR code for paperless sign-out. Health and Safety Mitigations

When staff and students are physically present in our building, Ocean Lakes is committed to their safety first. The following health mitigation and instructional strategies will be in place:


  • If you do not feel well, please STAY HOME!
  • Cloth face coverings will be required for students, staff, and visitors within the school building, bus stops, and busses unless individuals provide documentation from a health care provider that they cannot wear a face-covering due to a health condition or for developmental reasons.*
  • While moving throughout the building, students, staff, and visitors will practice 6-foot physical distancing and avoid congregating.
  • Student desks are separated by at least three feet in all classrooms.
  • Exercise and other activities that increase exhalation (i.e., singing) will occur outdoors or where appropriate social distancing can be maintained.
  • Arrival and dismissal plans support social distancing (i.e., designated entrances, unload/load buses one at a time, etc.).
  • The number of visitors allowed into the building is limited. Visits by authorized adults, including parents, should be arranged ahead of time.
  • Materials such as student supplies and lab equipment will be shared as little as possible.
  • Protective partitions are placed in strategic locations throughout the building (e.g., high traffic areas).
  • Students and staff who are sick or exposed to COVID-19 must stay home and self-quarantine for 14 days.**
  • Large face-to-face gatherings are suspended. This includes pep rallies, faculty meetings, etc.
  • Field trips are postponed until further notice.
  • The staff has been trained on how to talk to and support students during and after this pandemic.
  • Signage is posted in classrooms, hallways, office spaces, and entrances to communicate: Covid-19 symptoms, how to stop the spread of COVID-19 and preventative measures, and good hygiene.
  • We have enhanced facility cleaning protocols.


*The data shows a face-shield is 95% effective in preventing the transmission of droplets from the mouth into the air. A face shield can be considered if a cloth-face covering cannot be used.


**The quarantine period could change if the person can verify that they are at least two weeks from having had both doses of an approved vaccine.

Water Refill Station Access

Throughout the day, students will have access to two water refill stations. Students should bring their own containers to fill/refill.

Remote Students - Please Turn on Your Cameras!

As we return Option 1 students to school and begin teaching students concurrently (f2f and remote at the same time), Option 2 students are asked to turn their cameras on to help students at home, and those in school feel more connected. We ask that cameras be left on during live instruction and group work. Cameras may be turned off during independent work.
