UIL State News Writing Success
Congratulations to Caleb Woodburn for earning a gold medal victory at the UIL State Academic meet and for placing first in 6A in News Writing!
INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair
Alyssa Knowles and Anushka Jetly traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to participate in the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair from May 14- May 18. They competed against the brightest young scientists in the world. We are so proud of their achievements.

AP Chemistry
Vanessa Parker's AP Chemistry class kicked off this month by sporting their specially designed shirts (specifically Brian Ninan) for the AP Chemistry test occasion. The shirts highlight what a crazy year we have had!
English II
Ms. Sauer's classes worked hard this past month to build a campaign against social issues they believe high school students face and struggle with. The students presented their campaigns to authentic audiences made up of parents, teachers, and administrators and were eager to share with professionals who know and care about these issues.
National Spanish Exam Results
According to Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, 'Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 150,000 students participating in 2018.'

Fine Arts
Choir Pop Show
The FHS Choir performed their Pop Show this month and the theme was "New York State Of Mind." The program featured nearly 200 singers in five ensembles, plus a senior song and parent number, as well as over 40 solos, duets, and trios featured over two nights. The Choirs performed music centered around a New York theme, with many songs from musicals including Wicked, Hairspray, The Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia!, Newsies, Kinky Boots, Dear Evan Hansen, Guys & Dolls, Waitress, and many others. Per tradition, alumni was invited to sing our choral Benediction at the conclusion of each show.

State Water Polo
Coach Otten was State Coach of the Year, Nick Calapan was 1st Team All-State and named to the All-American water Polo teams, Evan Metcalf and Daniel Nagle were Honorable mention All-State and the team's final record was 22-3.
Track & Field
BOYS
Congratulations to our Regional Qualifiers who competed in the Region III Track and Field Championship this past month- Garrett McGregor, Michael Hermes, Brandon Lantau and Brandon De La Fuente. All four athletes represented Friendswood well, and the track and field coaching staff is extremely proud of their efforts.
Michael Hermes finished 5th in the high jump, Brandon De La Fuente finished 6th in the pole vault, Garrett McGregor finished 10th in the 3200m,13th in the 1600m and Brandon Lantau finished 14th in the 800m .
GIRLS
Congratulations to these two ladies on a hard-fought track season: Olivia Theall and Catherine Sims. These two sophomores ran very well on Saturday at the Regional meet. Olivia placed 10th with a time of 2:21 in the 800 meters and Catherine placed 9th with a time of 5:15 in the 1600 meters.
