Principal's Message
As you know, we had a student holiday on Monday. Our staff got together for professional development in balanced literacy, math instruction, and some other things relating to their specific area such as specials teachers. These days are vital for keeping us on the path to high levels of student learning.
Many of you commented on how much you enjoyed seeing the Summer Creek Bulldogs football players helping with the car rider line a couple of weeks ago. Well, that will continue on September 30 when the Summer Creek Starlettes dance team will be here doing the same thing! We love having high schoolers here at ACE to help out. The kids really look up to them. And did you know that we currently are hosting 6 kids from Sconzo Early College High School each Friday? They are helping in teacher classrooms with reading and facilitating learning activities with kids. We are grateful for their presence on our campus.
Up next we will be launching something called Kids Hope, which is a partnership between the school and local churches to provide mentoring to students who may need it. This program has been in place for many years at various Humble ISD schools and we are fortunate to have it here. Weekly, mentors from the community will come work with one student, and it is the same student each time. They may work on academic work together, play a game, or do some other activity of interest together. It's another way to reinforce relationships with our kids, and provides another positive, safe adult in the life of a kid similar to what Watch Dogs doe

Construction Update
After a lengthy wait, we finally opened our playgrounds this week! The kids and teachers really needed this. We are reviewing playground safety procedures with our kids, and teachers are being encouraged to take their kids out a second time during the day just for a brain break.
Other notable milestones:
The projectors in our gym and cafeteria were installed.
We will soon have a portable sound system in our cafeteria which will help us as we continue to wait on our backordered speakers.
Our security doors at the front are fully operational now. When visiting the campus our receptionist Susana can let you in by pushing a button to unlock the doors.
Grass seed was spread around the playground area, but some may have washed away in the rain. We will be addressing that.
Staff Favorite Book
This is my favorite book because I learned to read from it. When I would visit my aunt, we would sit on the couch and read this together. She spent hours with me reading this book over and over again.
Come Join the School Health Advisory Council
Are you a parent of a current Humble ISD student? Are you interested in student health and wellness programming?
Humble ISD has 3 open parent positions on the Humble ISD SHAC.
SHAC is an advisory committee that provides guidance, recommendations and assistance to the Board of Trustees on a variety of issues relating to student health and wellness. SHAC meets at least 4 times a year. Membership is comprised of parents, community members, and district representatives who work with students and public health officials on promoting school health on topics ranging from nutrition to fitness to substance abuse prevention. Serving on this council provides an opportunity for all members to gain a greater understanding, awareness, and appreciation for current and prospective health and wellness programming throughout the district. To be eligible for one of the open parent spots on SHAC, you need to be the parent of a currently enrolled Humble ISD student and cannot be a current District employee.
If you would like to join SHAC, please email SHAC Facilitator Helen Wagner at Helen.Wagner@humbleisd.net.
