Bible FAQ Series: How Do I Soul-Win?
In this lesson, we will learn how to soul-win. Let’s start by saying that there are many methods of soul-winning. We will be using the widely accepted “Romans Road” method for soul-winning; we will discuss some other ones as well.
1. Start off by telling them how God loves them (Romans 5:8)
Make sure that you communicate that God loves sinners before going on a rampage about sin. It is very important to not miss this step, or people will not be interested AT ALL in what you have to say. As scriptural support, use Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
2. Tell them that no one is worthy of getting into Heaven on their own accord (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23)
Make sure that the person knows that he/she will NEVER achieve salvation by works or by simply “being good”. If they begin to pontificate about “being brought up in the Church” or being baptized, continue to make it clear that he/she will NEVER get to Heaven of their own accord. As scriptural support use Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” If the Spirit wills, use Romans 6:23 as well, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
3. Tell them that Christ died to save them from their sins(Romans 5:10)
Make it known that only Christ can save them from their sins. Make it clear that Christ came to do just that. As scriptural support, use Romans 5:10, “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
4. Restate that God loves them(Romans 5:8)
At some point in your witnessing encounter, the person may feel as if he/she is not loved by God. Make sure that you communicate this throughout the entire conversation; if not, you could run the risk of the person “shutting down” and he/she could become closed to the Gospel.
5. Tell AND show them how to get saved (Romans 10:9-10)
The goal of the entire conversation is to win the person to Christ, correct? Well, that can’t happen if you don’t tell AND show the person how to get saved!!! Make it clear that salvation comes only by two ways: Confession by mouth and belief in the heart.
Note: At this point, it is EXTREMELY important that you are reading from a King James Bible (in fact, a King James Bible should be read by every Christian on the planet!). If you are using a modern perversion of the Bible, such as the NIV, the Gospel message may be distorted, or even changed from the way that God intended. Don’t make this mistake! You will ultimately be held accountable in Heaven if you WILLINGLY use the false doctrine to get someone saved.
As scriptural support, the best passage you can use is none other than Romans 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth: the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
6. If the Spirit wills, guide the person in a short prayer as they trust Christ as Savior.
Sometimes, a person may not get the concept of “trusting” Christ. If the Spirit wills, guide that person in a short prayer so that they can know how to trust Christ as Saviour. However, BE CAREFUL! Make sure that you let them know that it is not the PRAYER that saves them, but the BELIEF unto righteousness and the CONFESSION unto salvation that makes them saved.
7. If the Spirit wills, tell the person about baptism(Matthew 28:19)
If the Spirit wills, tell the person about baptism. However, in doing so, make it clear that baptism is an act of OBEDIENCE to Christ and does not COMPLETE or grant ASSURANCE of salvation. As scriptural support, use Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
Weekly Bible Insight: Isaiah 26:2-5
Today’s passage of Scripture was written during a time when Israel was spiritually rebellious and stubborn. Isaiah proclaimed the Word of God to those who would listen and in this particular passage, he was reassuring the Israelites that there is still strength in the LORD GOD JEHOVAH.
(Isa 26:2) Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
(Isa 26:3) Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
(Isa 26:4) Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
(Isa 26:5) For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust.
Isaiah 26:2-5 (KJV)
In verse 2, Isaiah is proclaiming that God will open “doors” for Israel that other nations will not be able to open because Israel is a righteous nation and keeps the Truth of the Lord God. In verse 3, Isaiah reminds the people that the Lord will keep the Israelites in perfect peace if they keep their minds focused on the Lord God. If you have read in the Old Testament, you might know that Israel had a history of apostasy from the things of God and a growing acceptance for idolatry when times got hard. That is why Isaiah says in verse 4, “Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:” He makes sure that he reassures Israel that they don’t need to trust in other gods; the only One who can save them is the LORD GOD. Do you find yourself slipping farther and farther away from God today? Don’t turn away from Him, my friend, when it seems like things are getting tougher and tougher. Remember that there is everlasting strength in the LORD JEHOVAH. Keep your mind on the Lord Jesus Christ, today, and trust in the Lord, and I am certain that He will bring you through. Be blessed my friends.
