Box Tops... Box Tops... Calling All Box Tops!

We are in 3rd place overall for the year... so keep on clippin'!
Our class also has won the ice cream sundae party raffle for the months of January and February! Our ice cream party date is "to be determined," and I will let you know when it is scheduled. We are feeling very lucky this year... no class has won both the ice cream party and end of year Rita's party... could this be the first year?! Thank you for continuing to send in your Box Tops!

Don't forget to send in your Ziploc bag full of Box Tops by March 25, 2015.

A few quick things about this week...

Reading

This week we will be working on synthesizing information and learning to recognize when our thinking changes. We will also be working with some poetry this week as we read to understand various poetic structures and devices.

Another great website to visit to practice strategies and skills is "Into the Book." Students can create their own usernames (I recommend they write them down!), and practice their reading strategies and skills with various games to play.

Reading Journals will be due March 24th-27th

Writing & Spelling

This week we will be continuing our unit on opinion writing. Students will be finishing their drafts, and beginning to revise their written pieces to improve their style of opinion writing.

Students should be writing at home 2+ times per week in their Writer's Notebooks. All "at home" entries should be dated and marked with an (H) to clearly identify an "at home" entry. Remember... the more they write, the better writers they will become!

Spelling Homework - NONE!

*Each week's spelling list will be posted on our class website!

Math

We will be beginning Unit #9 - Fractions, Decimals, & Percents.

Students should be reviewing their math facts through the use of xtraMath (www.xtramath.org) in order to reach mastery of all functions! I would expect all students to have passed addition AND subtraction at this point in the year! We are reaching the point in the year, when all students should be on multiplication, if not division, so keep practicing!

Social Studies - A Crop Duster Tour of the Midwest

We are continuing our tour of the United States by taking a crop duster tour of the Midwest region. Students will be visiting various cities on our tour, and will be creating an ABC book about the Midwest Region. Please check our class website for information that was reviewed in class regarding your child's ABC book project. It was emphasized that your child manage their time wisely for this project!

We are... a PEANUT & TREE NUT safe classroom!
