A Message From Our Principal
Springfield Elementary School Families,
We are now in the fall season even though it is still quite hot outside! Hopefully the fall weather will arrive soon.
Thank you for the wonderful support for our school and PTA with our Boosterthon fundraiser. The students enjoyed the daily "huddles" where they experienced "Mind Spark, Wild West" and learned about many character traits. I am very excited to share that our profit continued to rise, and the school now looks to profit over $54,000! Your generous contributions will benefit the school and PTA and provide the students with many resources and experiences. Thank you!
As I previously communicated, Mr. Fantone, the new Springfield Elementary principal, will begin in January. We speak regularly, and he will visit soon to meet families, visit classrooms, and get to know students. We will work diligently to ensure a smooth transition. He is excited to begin and will do a wonderful job for the students and school!
Your child's teacher may have already or will soon communicate to setup a time to meet for a Fall Parent Conference. This is a valuable time to discuss your child's progress. We hope that you are able to come in and meet with your child's teacher.
Please reach out to Mrs. Baird, Mrs. Marsters, or myself if you have any questions or concerns. We are happy to help you. Thank you for your continued support of your child's education and Springfield Elementary!
Sincerely,
Peter Olinger, Principal

Trailblazer of the month!
Shout out to our 5th Grade Trailblazer of the month, Ryles Terry. He has been doing an awesome job working hard and is a great leader at our school. Congrats Ryles!!
Notes from the Nurse
The health room has already had a steady number of visits for various illnesses. The number one way to help avoid these illnesses and stay healthy is good hand washing! It is important to not simply rely on hand sanitizer because it is not always effective against all germs. Please talk with your child about proper hand washing technique. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is a great resource for hand washing tips. Discuss the steps of hand washing including: wet hands with clean running water and apply soap then continually rub hands together for at least 20 seconds making sure to lather all surfaces of hands, rinse hands with clean, running water and then dry hands. This will not only help to protect your child from getting sick, but help protect the other students as well. Please remember to alert your child's teacher and/or the school nurse as to any changes in long-‐term medication, medical conditions, or emergency phone numbers. Also, please remember to not send your student to school if they are not feeling well. If your child should have a fever they need to remain out of school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.

Related Arts Messages
Media Messages:
It’s October and that means… Time to ‘fall’ into the library and ‘leaf’ through some good books!!! We are excited that students are remembering to bring their books back on their specific related arts color day for library!!! We are also excited too about the upcoming book fair October 3-11.
Just a reminder that the library continues to collect starburst candy, used or new books, duplos!, and greeting cards (they will be used for bookmarks).
Until next time, happy reading!!!
Technology:
During technology in September we have accessed Google Drive in second through fifth grades. All second through fifth graders have also logged into Typing Agent. I strongly encourage all these students to practice proper keyboarding at home. It is a skill that takes practice and will benefit them throughout their lives. Kindergarten and first graders have practiced procedures and mouse skills. October will bring us all to Digital Citizenship. We will be learning online etiquette and safe practices while using the Internet and technology.
PE:
We’ve had a great start to the year so far in PE! We encourage all students to be active outside of school EVERY DAY! Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate clothes and shoes for their PE day as we have a lot of fun fitness and strategy activities that we love to play. Some converstation starters with your children about PE class are:
1. “What did you learn in PE today?” 2. “Did you talk about a strategy that helps with the game?” 3. “Did you raise your heart rate during the PE activities today?” 4. “Were you a good friend to someone in PE class today?”
Have a great October!
