Planned Student Walkouts
Students are planning to walkout of class on March 14, 2018. This is a nationwide demonstration in order for students to honor the 17 victims from the recent Florida school shooting. In speaking with student leaders, their plan is to Walkout of class at precisely 10:00 am and move to the north fields. Student leaders would create a staging area for students to make speeches and honor the 17 victims of last month’s school shooting in Florida. Once the bell rings for nutrition break, they will start to conclude the protest and should report to period 4 on time. Please review the Planned Student Walkouts Guidelines attached below. Review as a PLC and with your students.

AP Environmental Science
Dr.Orianna Bretschger from Aquam LLC gave a presentation to Mrs.Ekstein’s APES/IBESS on the use of microbial fuel cells (BEST system) to generate energy and clean wastewater. A Microbial fuel cell (MFC), or biological fuel cell, is a bio-electrochemical system that drives an electric current by using bacteria and mimicking bacterial interactions found in nature. Dr.Bretschger currently has pilot projects in Tijuana (700 gallons of raw sewage treated to irrigation quality) and San Pasqual High School (swine wastewater). Through this technology her company is able to remove 80% of sludge and works 10x faster than traditional wastewater treatment and does not generate the powerful greenhouse gas, methane. Her goal is to make this sanitation technology affordable in all LEDC countries to reduce waterborne diseases by providing clean drinking water, methane free energy generation, and educational opportunities women.
