Beginning Sewing Workshop
December 27, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Nuckolls County Extension Office
Pre-register by December 20; Cost $30.00
This workshop is for those who are just learning, or have always wanted to learn how to sew. All ages welcome. During this workshop, you will become familiar with a sewing machine, make a needle book, a patchwork pillow, and a pillowcase. Registration fee covers fabric/supplies, snacks, and a noon meal. Items to bring include: basic sewing kit and a sewing machine (must be in good working condition). You MUST pre-register to attend this workshop. To pre-register call the Extension Office or email Kaye Mussman (Thayer County) or Jean Stichka (Nuckolls County). Workshop is limited to 10 in each location.
Pottery Workshop Opportunity
We are fortunate to have a well known artist in our midst, Lucky Stradley from Hubbell. She is willing to do a Face Jug workshop with 4-H Youth if we have interest. Cost would be $15.00. Workshop Ideas Needed!
2017 State Make It With Wool Contest
Enter the Make It With Wool Contest! The object of the contest is to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabric and yarn; to encourage personal creations in sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning and weaving of wool fabric; and to recognize creative skills.
The 2017 State Make It With Wool Contest will be November 18 at the Lancaster Extension Education Center in Lincoln, NE beginning at 9:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to the public Fashion Show at 1:00 p.m.
The divisions determined by age as of January 1, 2017 (national rule), are as follows:
- Preteen – age 12 and under
- Junior – age 13 to 16
- Senior – age 17 to 24
- Adult – age 25 and over
- Made For Others

Entry forms, fees, wool samples and wool testing fees are due October 15, 2017 to Andrea Nisley. The fabrics/yarns used for the wool contest must be 100% wool or wool blend (minimum 60% wool or specialty wool fiber) for each fashion fabric or yarn used. Specialty wool fibers include mohair, cashmere, alpaca, camel, and llama.

Earlier this year, the 2016 state contest winners competed at the 2017 National Contest in Denver, Colorado where Abigail Olson of Sargent received 3rd place in the Junior Division and Merna Hanson of Juniata received 7th place in the Adult Division. Another Nebraska representative was Charmayne Popp of Broken Bow in the Senior Division.
The National Make It With Wool also has a Fashion Design Competition for college students who are currently enrolled in a college-level fashion or apparel design program. Entry deadline is November 1. Information criteria, how to enter and deadline information is given on the National Make It With Wool website.

4-H Junior Leaders Club
Thayer County 4-H Junior Leaders will meet November 19th, time TBA at the SCC Learning Center in Hebron following the Christmas Fair.
If you would like to be a part of the 4-H Junior Leaders Club, you must be 13-18 years old by January 1 of the current year. Contact Jacie Milius if you'd like to join!
