News from the Nurse

It has been a pleasure to care for your children this year and I wish all of our CES families a safe and healthy summer. If your child has any medication in the nurse's clinic, it must be sent home by the end of the school year. I will contact you if there is a medication that must be picked up by a parent instead of being sent home in the student's backpack. Any medication remaining in the clinic once school is out will be discarded.

Keyboarding Resource for Students

Do you want to increase your student’s keyboarding skills? Typing Club is a web-based program for Grades 3-8 in GCISD that teaches students how to touch-type. The engaging and interactive experience is gamified, so learning proper hand positioning, posture and typing technique is fun for students. Your students can even use this program over the summer break. Students can easily access Typing Club through ClassLink or by signing in with their GCISD Google account and password at gcisd.typingclub.com.

CES Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration began on Tuesday, April 23rd and goes through the end of the school year. The school office is open each day from 8:00 am to 3:15 pm to help if needed.

CES Pre-K registration is completed online and is selected by using a lottery system. For more information, please see the following website. Tuition based Pre-K at CES

Spread the Word About GCISD Pre-K

GCISD Pre-K qualification kicked off on April 16th at the Language Assessment Center, 3050 Timberline Drive. Please share this information with your friends and neighbors that have children turning 4 years old by September 1, 2019.

For more information go to https://www.gcisd.net/parents/pre-_kindergarten

Please note this is NOT the same as tuition-based Pre-K.

Dress Code

It's getting hot outside, but please remember the school dress code! While wearing tank tops (with small straps) or tube tops, students must wear an over blouse (sweater, etc.) buttoned halfway up. These cannot be worn by themselves. Sleeveless blouses/tops must have the outside edge of the sleeve touch the outside edge of the shoulder. Also, shorts and skirts must be long enough to extend mid-thigh and allow students to be able to stand, sit and/or bend with modesty. Students that come to school dressed in clothing that is not dress code approved, will be sent to the nurse's office to call home for additional clothing. Dress code is enforced at all grade levels- pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. For a more detailed list and specific criteria for dress code, including hair styles, please go to the Student-Parent Handbook and Code of Conduct 2018-2019 provided on the district website.

Volunteering at CES

In order to volunteer in GCISD, a volunteer must:

1. Read the Volunteer Handbook, watch the appropriate video included in the handbook and electronically sign the volunteer verification form.

2. Complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook. (This must be done EVERY year!)

Here is the link to the district Volunteer Information.

You cannot volunteer at the school until both of these items have been completed through the GCISD Volunteer Handbook, so don’t delay!

At CES, we ask that you do not bring younger siblings into the school when volunteering. This includes field trip chaperoning as well. Please make other arrangements for younger siblings. Thanks!

Summer Learning Resources and Suggestions

Our GT Specialist, Mrs. Petersen, created a smore for parents to use over the summer that includes resources and suggestions for their students!

Elementary Summer Boredom Busters Doc

GCISD instructional coaches created a summer activities calendar for students called Summer Boredom Busters. It includes recommendations for a variety of activities all summer along with a weekly calendar that includes a Humanities, Math, Science and a Maker challenge each week.
