Principal's Message
Winding down the summer is often bittersweet. My family and I have had a great time beating the heat with fun trips to the beach, enjoying the long summer evenings, and of course ice cream. Every beginning comes with excitement and anticipation of the year ahead. Sometimes it comes with butterflies and nervous moments of what a new school, new teachers, and new classmates may be like. No matter where your student is in the range of emotions, please assure them that we will all work to support them as we begin the year.
I hope that you are as excited as I am to begin the school year, and hopefully your student is excited to kick off the school year. Our staff was thrilled to meet our incoming 7th graders and new 8th graders at Orientation this past Monday, and I personally want to thank all of the parents I had a chance to meet. I was so energized to meet so many smiling faces, and cannot wait to meet more students and parents as the year begins.
I often wear my "dad-lens" in my approach as a leader. Thinking both as a dad and Principal, it's good to get kids back into the routine of school. Currently, my wife and I are trying to get our kids back into their bedtime & wake-up routine so that the transition back to school is as smooth as possible. Hopefully, your student is getting back into the groove of school by re-establishing evening routines so that they are well rested for their first day.
Enjoy the last weekend of summer and know that the Pacific Trails staff is very excited to begin a wonderful year of learning with your student.
See you Tuesday for the first day of school!
With gratitude,
Mr. Wild

Tips for the First Day of School
Bring your Chromebook and Charger. Your Chromebook should be charged and ready to use before school each day.
Bring something to write with (pen or pencil) and something to write on (notebook, binder with blank paper, etc.). If you need assistance with school supplies, please see your counselor.
Free breakfast and lunch are available to all students; however, lines will be long the first couple of weeks of school as students learn how to navigate the lunch lines and the pin pads. We recommend packing a lunch or additional snacks for your student for the first few weeks of school until everyone learns the routines.
Bring a refillable water bottle. There is a water bottle refill station at the outdoor C-Building restrooms.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Teachers and staff will be wearing staff shirts to make them easy to identify on the first day. If you need assistance please ask any staff member for help.
Village and Rec Center
We highly advise that students be picked up and dropped off on campus. The Village and Recreation Center are NOT supervised by site administration or staff. The Learning Commons is open from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm and is supervised by PTMS Staff.
Looking for a parent volunteer
Are you a parent of a student on an IEP? Are you interested in being the PTMS parent representative at the Special Education Strategic Plan Parent Forum (SPPF)?
The Special Education Strategic Plan Parent Forum (SPPF) meets four times throughout the year to discuss priorities for PTMS and the district. Parents, administrators, and district personnel meet to share updates on their site and to learn about the other sites across the district. To learn more about the Special Education Strategic Plan please click HERE.
If you are interested please email Assistant Principal Freeman at kathryn.freeman@sduhsd.net.
Counseling Update
Happy Friday, Wolves! We can't wait to see our students next week and wanted to wish everyone a great first day of school. As a reminder, the counselors will be outside of the counseling office during break and lunch to help with any questions or any errors on student’s schedules. We recommend that students write their schedule down or print it out if they do not have access to a device. However, if students need a printed copy of their schedule, they can come to the counseling office to get one. The counseling offices are located in the administration building.
Accessing Class Schedules: Schedules will be available to view in Aeries on Monday, August 15, at 8:00 a.m. Please read the Tech Instructions to access student class schedules in Aeries.
We enjoyed meeting our new families at Monday’s orientation session. If you were unable to attend you can view our presentation here. We hope you enjoy your weekend and are looking forward to Mosey Monday on August 15!

Chromebook Check-Out - August 12 and 15
Students are required to have a District-Issued Chromebook/charger for specific assignments and testing throughout the year. For other educational exercises, they are permitted to utilize their personal devices at school until instructed to bring the Chromebook to class.
How to Check-Out a Chromebook
Sign-up for a timeslot to pick up your Chromebook on either August 12th or August 15th between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
We also need some Volunteers (two-hour shifts) to help with Chromebook Check-Out. If you are interested in helping out, please sign-up for a timeslot here.
Come to the campus at your selected sign-up time. Please park in the parking lot, walk through the front gate, and continue on to the Learning Commons straight ahead at the back of the campus. Visitor’s Badges will not be required at this time.
Reminders
1. We are checking-out 500+ Chromebooks. Please be patient if there is a line.
2. Students are not required to be present to check-out a Chromebook at this time.
Students who are unable to come to the pre-school check-out can go to the Learning Commons before school/after school or during lunch to check one out after school starts on the 16th.
Students will receive login information for their new Chromebook during the first week of school.
If you have questions, please contact Kathryn.Freeman@sduhsd.net.
Aeries Data Confirmation
First Day of School - Tuesday, August 16th
The first day of school is Tuesday, August 16th. School starts at 8:10 a.m. every morning. Please refer to this bell schedule for full day bells, Late Start Days, and more.
What Supplies will my child need?
- Something to write with, something to write on (paper), something to keep it organized (notebook/binder), and something to keep it all in (backpack).
- PE clothes. Kids will not dress out for PE the first couple days of school but when they do, they'll need a comfortable t-shirt (no pockets, no logos) and a comfortable pair of shorts (no pockets). You can either use what's already in your child's closet, go out and purchase them from a clothing store, or order PTMS PE clothes on our Online Webstore.
Safety Reminders
DO NOT DROP-OFF/PICK-UP YOUR STUDENT IN THE STAFF PARKING LOT! It only contributes to the already slow traffic because we have to stop traffic to allow for crossing the crosswalk to the campus.
To ensure student safety, students on foot must walk on the sidewalks and students riding bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc. must walk their rides on the sidewalks - not through the parking lots (including CCA's parking lot) to avoid hitting pedestrians or being hit by moving vehicles. Administration will be out front in the mornings during the first week to help students with locks until everyone has the swing of things.
From the Health Office
Medications
If your student requires medication administration during school hours and planning to attend on-campus learning, an Authorization For Medication Administration at School form must be filled out and signed by both the parent/guardian and the physician, dated in August 2022 or later in order for the Health Technician to be permitted to administer any medications to your child. This includes all over-the-counter medicine, as well as prescription medications.
An Allergy & Anaphylaxis form is required for those students with allergies and requiring medications at school. If a student only has a medication for allergy/anaphylaxis and completes that form, they do NOT need to also complete an Authorization For Medication Administration at School form.
Both the medications and the appropriate forms must be brought to the Health Office and logged in by a parent with the Health Tech or Office Staff (NOT SENT IN WITH THE STUDENT) before any medications can be dispensed.
Students may carry and self-administer inhaled asthma medications and/or use an Epi-Pen provided the physician and parent forms have been completed and reside with the school Health Tech.
Parents/guardians are permitted to come to the school and dispense medicine to their children in the Health Office as needed if the required forms are not on file.
You can also find additional information HERE including the Seizure Action Plan.
Hours of operation to drop-off forms and medications:
Monday-Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Please follow us on Instagram to see what your student is up to during PE class.
From the Science Department
Science Notebooks
All science students will need a notebook that they will bring to their science class daily. These can be a composition style or a spiral bound notebook. We recommend the 8.5x11” spiral bound, 100 page, college-ruled notebooks, but any size will do. We do not recommend the 3 or 5 subject notebooks, as this science notebook must be used exclusively for science; no other subjects should be in this notebook. Students should bring their notebook to class no later than Monday, August 22nd. If this is a hardship, please contact your student’s science teacher.
Check out this Guide for Science Notebooks
From the PTSA
Please help PTMS PTSA meet our goal of $550 per student with $60 for a PTSA Family Membership, $250 for PTSA Programs and/or $240 for Technology.
