Student-Led Conferences - Parents-We Need and Want You to Attend!
This is a very important and exciting event. We hope that ALL parents will make time to attend. Please see the schedule below for your child’s conference date and time. Our goal is for every student to lead a conference discussing goals they have set and their progress the first 9 weeks of school. Content area performance standards, data, areas of strength, areas in need of attention, work habits, and goal setting will be discussed. If you are unable to attend, please send a grandparent, aunt/uncle, friend of the family, etc. Thank you in advance for taking time out to have a 20 minute conversation about your child’s education presented to you from your child’s perspective.
What parents can expect at Student-Led Conferences:
· At a student-led conference, your child does most of the talking.
· Your child will tell you the Performance Standards he/she has been working on in class.
· Your child will discuss with you his/her progress in each class.
· Your child will discuss with you his/her improvement plan for the upcoming grading period.
· After your child has finished, he/she will turn the meeting over to you for any future questions that need to be answered.
· Teachers will only act as facilitators for the large group.
Things to do before the conference:
· Make arrangements to attend or send someone on your behalf.
· Let your child know that you are excited about this event and your plans to attend.
· Make a list of questions that you might ask your child about his/her coursework and work habits (a list will also be provided).
· If you cannot make the scheduled conference time, please call or e-mail your child’s teacher(s) to reschedule. If you are not sure which “team” your child is on, please contact your child’s teachers.
On Conference Day:
· Arrive on time.
· Take notes during the conference.
· Encourage your child.
· Ask for clarification of things you do not understand.
After the Conference:
· If you still have questions and concerns, set up an appointment to meet with the teacher on another date.
· Fill out the Parent Evaluation of Student-Led Conferences Form.
Thank you in advance for partnering with us!
