Sgt. John Riley
Against the Mexican & American War
San Patricio Battalion, Former U.S Army.
I am originally from a small town in Ireland. I came to the U.S and joined the army. I became a drill master at west point. There I trained men to be soliders. Now the Americans consider me a deserter and traitor. Thats not how I see it. I was sent to invade Mexico with the Army. The U.S had no right to be there. It reminded me of the British taking over Ireland. The Mexicans were treated very badly and cruelly. The Mexicans encouraged me to leave the U.S army and to join theirs. That is what I did.
Mexico represent!
I became a lietenant of the Mexican Army. About 260 U.S soliders joined me to fight on the Mexican side.
Americans Killed many innocent Religious humans.
The U.S soldiers burned down many churches in Mexico. They raped women, hurting children, and shooting men.
"D" for Deserter
We are captured. Most of us are sentenced to death by hanging. The "lucky" ones are to be given 50 lashes with a whip, forced to dig the graves of our friends who will be executed, and then branded on our cheeks with the letter "D" for deserter.
