CHS Parent Update
June 11, 2018
Last Parent Update for the 2017-2018 School Year
This is it. The last week of school. Graduation occurs this week and then we have a few short days in front of us before a well deserved break. I am proud of the work we have done this year and I am looking forward to another successful year next year. I will begin sending next years updates on the Sunday before school starts. You will also receive regular communication from the main office as important information and reminders need to be shared.
I hope that you are planning some great summer experiences with your family. I will be traveling to Sacramento and Seattle for AVID and then after that I will be planning a series of three day weekends with the family to go hiking, camping, and lounging on some beach. I also look forward to doing some fishing and river floating. Shucks, I might even start working out again now that I have a bit more time on the schedule. Be well and enjoy your break. I hope this next week is strong and fast.
In The Know
Gifts for Teachers - We know you love our teachers. We do, too! June 18 is their last day, but many of our teachers clean out their mailboxes early. Please give any gifts to your favorite teachers in person before you leave school on Friday, especially if they are perishable.
Please Return Your Library Books and Textbooks! All Churchill Library books are now due back. Please return them immediately if you haven't already. Textbooks are due on the last day of school. Please return your textbooks if you're already done with them because it's easy to forget to return your books on the last day of school. If you have lost your library books or textbooks, talk to Debbie or Lisa in the library this week.
Mark Your Calendar: The Churchill Library Will Be Open for Checkout on Tuesday, July 17th from 10am-2pm. All current CHS students can stop by on July 17th between 10:00-2:00 and borrow books for the rest of the summer. Please note that computers will not be available at this time. The Churchill library will only be open for book checkout. Drop in and grab some fun summer reading!
Eugene Public Library's Teen Summer Reading Program. Check out the Eugene Public Library's Summer Reading program for teens. Get a free book when you sign up! Free Streaming Audiobooks ! Did you know the Eugene Public Library offers free streaming and downloadable audiobooks through a phone app called Hoopla? All you need is a Eugene Public Library card. Just download the app, create a free account, enter your public library card number and you can borrow 10 audiobooks / movies / music files per month per library card. Hoopla offers thousands of audiobooks for people of all ages, including some of the year's hottest titles. They're high quality productions and the audiobooks are usually narrated by expressive, professional actors. If you have questions, talk to Debbie in the Churchill Library or speak to the Eugene Public Library staff.
Summer Bridge Applications - The window for Summer Bridge applications will close on Wednesday 6/13.
New Website - We're redesigning our website. Our goals are to make the redesigned website easier to navigate so you can quickly find the information you need, and to improve readability on your desktop, mobile device, and tablet. We plan to switch to the new site at the end of June. As part of the update, we will be slightly changing our web address to align with other 4J schools. The new address will be www.chs.4j.lane.edu. We hope you find the changes helpful.
CMN and Dental Enhancements - Last week I shared the hard work that our nurse did with getting dental support to our students. One thing that I would like to point out is the funding revenue for this comes from Children's Miracle Network that supports the Lancer Pageant. The Lancer Pageant program has paid hundreds of dollars to helping these kids get the dental and eye care they need. As well as giving funding to the Health Center for getting basic needs that are not covered or given by the district.
Volley Summer Camps - has helped kids and adults be more active and social. Currently we have almost 400 youths and adults participating in our open plays for volleyball year round. There is an opportunity to encourage more youths to be active and get off their phones; especially with summer around the corner. Volleyball is a wonderful sport to bring people together. This summer, through partnerships with Lane Community College and New Hope Christian College, we are bring affordable volleyball camps for kids from kindergarten to 12th grade.
