Greetings from First Grade!
We are in full swing with our holiday excitement and activities. Being in first grade at this time of year is nothing but magical!
Event Information
HOLIDAYS AROUND THE WORLD
Our first graders will be participating in a "world wide" tour next Tuesday. We have volunteers coming into the 4 first grade classrooms to help teach our students about different holiday customs around the world. This is a fascinating adventure for our children. They love travelling to the different countries(classrooms) and having their passports stamped upon their arrival in each of the new countries. Some of the countries which will be visited are China, Israel, Italy and France. Stay tuned for some magnificent crafts heading your way early next week.

Holiday Play at the High School
Next Wednesday, 12/23, the first grades will be heading over to the high school to enjoy a holiday performance in the morning. High school students who are studying children's theatre will present an amazing performance. Please be on the lookout for permission slips in the near future.
Read Aloud Schedule
Stay tuned and be on the lookout in your child's mail for the upcoming read aloud schedule. We will begin showcasing one reader each day after the holidays. After we have had a few practice read alouds in front of our peers, we will gladly invite family members in to enjoy as well. This is an amazing opportunity for our young readers to share their love of reading with others and receive heartfelt compliments from the audience when they are done. This opportunity ties in beautifully to the speaking and listening standards that we are working on in 1st grade.
BOOK IT! Calendars
I will encourage students to continue their reading journeys over the winter break. Their goal is to complete the December calendar which can be returned on 1/4/16 to redeem their pizza prize. I am thinking about doubling the reward to two tickets for anyone who is able to complete December's reading goal. I will also send home the January calendars next week so they can get a jump start reading in the new year! Students are expected to read for 15-20 minutes each night. Please encourage your child to do so. Thanks.
Thank you for all your clothing donations! We celebrated the school's success this afternoon at an assembly. Students saw first hand how their good deeds make a difference! The school community collected 162 bags of clothing! Students used teamwork to load all the bags into the truck. Check it out!
Wacky Wednesday!
Each week students look forward to Wacky Wednesday. During snack time they are able to relocate their seats and snack with their pals. Check out how they decided to dine. Too cute!
