CFES 4th Grade Updates
Dear CFES 4th Grade Families,
Creekfest 2.0 was an absolute blast! Thank you to every single person who had a hand in helping make this day happen for us. Most importantly, the kids had such a wonderful day. The look on their faces was priceless while they were having fun finding clues, kicking the soccer ball, eating their sweet treats, and just being kids!
Please check in with your student to see what materials may need to be replenished for their return after the break. We still have several weeks of learning and many students are needing materials (scissors, colored pencils, dry erase markers, etc.)
Please be sure your student remembers to bring his/her water bottle and headphones or earbuds to school every day.
Our CFES Great Expectations focus this week will be:
Life Principle: courtesy - consideration, cooperation and generosity
Quote: All doors open to courtesy." - Thomas Fuller
Creekside Forest Creed
I am proud to be a Creekside Forest Cougar.
I come to school each day respecting my teachers,
my classmates, and myself.
I am responsible for my choices and their results.
I care for others with all my heart.
Never quitting is my #1 tool;
I am a leader at the #1 school.
Go CREEKSIDE!
Please be encouraged to discuss with your child what the CFES Creed and weekly quote and life principle means to them and help make life connections to reinforce.

This week each student received their Geo-town project instructions and rubric. Each student will create their own city, town, or neighborhood using key elements of geometry. This project will be completed at home and taken as a double daily grade.
It is due on Tuesday, April 20th.
We are continuing our Geometry Unit next week. We will begin the week by classifying quadrilaterals and end the week by measuring angles with a protractor. There is a significant amount of vocabulary that will be covered - please be practicing vocabulary at home to ensure mastery. Language Arts & Social Studies Updates
Reading: Next week, we'll continue paired passages using different genres with a focus on Biographies. Readers will utilize skills of finding similarities and differences between the two texts in addition to spiraling many of the reading TEKS that we've learned this year. It's the point in the year when we put it ALL together! They will have to find evidence in the text to support their reasoning. Students hoping to raise their AR quiz points. Please ask your child to show you their AR progress online.
Writing: Writing conferences are in full swing! We're looking for all the ways that each student writer can raise the level of their writing. This week, we're challenging students to look back to make changes to their published pieces. Our focus this week will be showing and not telling through rich details that paint a picture for our reader. We'll also incorporate figurative language. Friday, students will write an expository essay start to finish for a major grade.
This week we'll be working on revising and editing passages to target some more difficult TEKS based on our Mock Writing Staar test. Students will be working in groups based on skills they need practice.
Social Studies: We will be diving into the impact of cattle drives and the railroad. We will learn about people like Charles Goodnight, Richard King, and Lizzie Johnson.
