Black Leaders During the Civil Rights Movement
Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall became a lawyer and fought for social justice as the staff lawyer of the NAACP. His most famous case was Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka (1954), where Marshall successfully argued that educational facilities that separated students by race were not equal. This wasn’t the only time Marshall would take on the highest court in the land in pursuit of justice. In fact, Marshall argued and won more cases before the Supreme Court than anyone else in American history. Eventually, Marshall’s position in the courtroom shifted from the courtroom floor to the judge’s seat. Thurgood Marshall became the first Black Supreme Court Justice in the US, gaining a reputation for expanding civil rights and protecting the American people from systems of oppression.
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist who played a major role in the equality of Blacks and Whites in America. One of her many commitments to trying to provide equality for everyone was refusing to move to the back of a bus to let a white individual sit. Through her strong involvement in the community, she gained these titles from the United States Congress called: “the first lady of civil rights” and “the mother of the freedom movement”.
Malcolm X
Malcolm X was an African-American Muslim Minister and an African-American human rights activist. He preached self-worth to the community of Blacks in America and tried to teach many to reflect on where they came from and what they have accomplished, while also teaching them to love themselves and appreciate who they are and what they have.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr was an African-American Baptist Minister and an African-American civil rights leader. Through his impeccable leading style and powerful messages to the world, he single-handedly enacted a major change in the minds of political leaders, which gave way to African-Americans gaining more rights in America. A very famous quote made by him was, “I have a dream”; which was the name of his well-known speech that helped changed the face of America today.

Ms. Fleck's Class Celebrates the 100th Day of School
Ms. Fleck's class had a great time celebrating the 100th day of Kindergarten. They have been counting the days since the first day of school! They made hats to let everyone know that they are 100 days smarter! They also shared their collection of 100 objects, heard a story about 100 snowmen and exercised 100 times with Jack Hartman! What a great day!
Mr. Leyden's Students Become Groundhogs
As I, Gus, came out of my hole I saw a crowd of people watching me. I was nervous because many people were taking pictures of me. I saw the big hills and heard birds chirping. A man started grabbing me and I heard voices saying, ̈ no more winter. ̈ The man held me out and there was a shadow. The crowd was sad because there would be six more weeks of winter.
Keep on scratching.
-Colbin Charron
Wow, what a beautiful morning! Wait, why are there cameras lights, and people? I know it's not the day that I think it is groundhog's day. No, no noooooooooooo. I need to hide now. His friend says, "Dude it's your day!" "Ohhhhhhhhhh that explains a lot." His friend says, "So what are you waiting for go out there."
-Donavan Finch
(Yawning) What time is it? (yelling) It's 8:00!!!!!!! AHH! Wait what is the date? FEBRUARY 2nd! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It's Groundhogs day!! I don't want to see the people! (sighing) Well, I might as well get ready. Wait, I am a groundhog. I don't need clothes!! Ok, now they are calling me. (caller) Now pronouncing Trina the groundhog!!!! The End
-Mia Leone
Good morning, the first thing I will do is do my morning routine. First, brush my teeth, eat breakfast, then I will go outside to see my shadow or not. When I see my shadow and I see another Groundhog I said, "Do you want to come over for breakfast or a cup of coffee?" That is my story.
