A message from our PTO and Media Center
Dear TGMS families,
I am so excited that the PTO has so graciously decided to focus on the library during the month of February with a Love Your Library fundraiser. This fundraiser was planned with hopes to help update and rebuild our library as well as to purchase materials to help lengthen the life of the current and future books. I reached out to the PTO for help due to the age of the library’s collection and lack of “popular” books that our students want to read. The average year of publication for our current book collection is 2005 and as you can imagine this leaves our students with books that are lacking proper non-fiction information and without books that will catch their attention or pique their interests. Since students at the middle school level are series heavy readers and strongly rely on the appearance of a book to help them choose and have a desire to read, an out of date collection is hard to sell. Our students come to the library with such excitement about books and a desire to continue their love of reading that it is hard to not be able to provide them with what they want and need. The task of updating the library is not a small undertaking and the estimated expense at this time is $20,000. The PTO and I are hoping that with your help we can reach this goal and have a positive impact on our students in a year that has seen so many negatives. Thank you for helping our students LOVE THEIR LIBRARY!

The PTO is extremely excited to help support our students in giving them the opportunity to go on adventures, despite being stuck indoors right now. We have created a month of exciting fundraisers and prizes for our students and staff. Our first week starting next Monday February 1's schedule is below.
Monday-Friday: February 1-5
We are asking students to donate their gently used books, that they have already read, to the library. All safety and cleaning protocols will be followed. These books can be given to their Home Room teacher to deliver to the librarian.
Door Contest: Teachers have decorated their classroom doors to highlight an influential Black American. The winner of the door design contest will receive 5 books off of their classroom wish list!
Parents will also get to vote this week as well with a link being sent out to them! That winner will receive the same prize.
Keep an eye for next week's schedule!!
As always if there are any question or concerns please feel free to contact me at rebecca.vanhorn85@gmail.com
Thank you for your continued support
