September News
Mrs. Williams
September is Here!
The first month of school is over and everyone is adjusting to our routines in class. I am excited to share we have a student teacher from Athens State. Miss Maguire will be with us until the week after fall break. She is learning how to be a teacher and will be conducting some of the teacher duties over the next several weeks. We are excited to have the opportunity to help our community by training a future teacher!
September Learning and Fun
Reading
We are working on letters Mm, Tt, Aa, Ss, reading sight words, and building our stamina while working quietly at learning centers called Daily Treats.
Math
We are working on identifying, counting objects 0-5 and building our number sense.
Writing
We are working on writing our names correctly. Only the first letter should be an uppercase. We will start writing in our journals this month.
Please Remember
• We will check out books from the library on Thursdays. Please remember to bring books every week.
• Please remember we do not allow “drop-offs” at the front of the school. This is a safety issue.
• If your child is a car rider and you need to fasten your child’s seat belt, you will need to pick up your child and then pull up to the fence area. This will give you a place to stop and fasten the seat belt and the car rider area will still be able to move forward.
• Remember to send water bottles daily. They must have a sport pop top.
• Practice lunch number, car number and/or bus number.
• Tennis shoes must be worn for P.E. If your child wears sandals, please send shoes for them to change into. They should be able to change their shoes on their own.
• Only 8 parent notes are allowed for absences during the year. Get a Doctor excuse whenever possible.
• Always send in a note for absences.
Good Citizen
Each month someone is recognized for being the good citizen. This person is polite, helpful to others, and doesn't get in trouble. They receive a special prize from Mrs. Hancock.

Health Update
Colds
We are working on these at school and I am reminding kids about this daily but I need your help at home.
- Please remind your child to cover when sneezing or coughing.
- Washing hands regularly is the best way to prevent the spread of illness.
- Make sure your child knows how to blow his/her nose.
Lice
We have not had a problem in our class but I wanted to give you some tips to prevent lice.
• Girls with long hair wear in a ponytail or braids.
• Use hairspray or other styling product.
• Add tea tree oil in shampoo or use a shampoo with tea tree oil.
• Check your child’s head regularly to catch it early.
At school I take these preventative measures:
• Coats and blankets are stored in back packs.
• Back packs are kept zipped while hanging on hooks.
• Discourage children from touching heads.
If your child gets lice the school nurse can give you directions on ways to treat.
Items in Back Pack
- Wash water bottles regularly, daily would be best.
- Wash blankets each week.
- Keep a change of clothes in a Ziploc bag in the back pack for accidents or spills.
