Bear Counseling Corner
January 2021
Happy New Year Bear Community!
Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and restful break!
As we move into the new calendar year, it's important to acknowledge the hard work our school community has put into comprehensive distance learning. Our appreciation to our Bear families for the great work you have done so far with getting your student online and creating the best learning environment for them. We could not be successful without you!
The month of January brings us closer to the end of the academic quarter. Please have your student focus greatly in the next couple of weeks so they may finish the quarter strong! The academic quarter ends January 29th. Please make sure you have contacted teachers about grades and missing assignments. Please be reminded that you may check PowerSchool for current student grades and assignments. ( Link provided below).

CONTINUING HEALTHY COMMUNICATION ABOUT RACE
When we avoid conversations about race and ethnicity:
Children are more likely to incorrectly judge other groups.
Children have little to no connection to their heritage.
Children are more vulnerable to developing a negative self-concept.
Children may not know how to respond to racially-charged experiences.
When we address conversations about race and ethnicity:
Children are more respectful of other groups.
Children will have a better understanding and appreciation for their own race, ethnicity and overall identity.
Self-esteem is higher.
Children can recognize and respond more appropriately to racially-charged situations.

HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN (Due January 15th)
WHAT IS IT?
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT:
The High School and Beyond Plan is a state and district graduation requirement. Students must detail their plans for meeting high school graduation requirements and their plans for the first year following high school completion. The plan is intended to help students identify post-secondary paths such as education, military, travel and work by thinking about their future and providing motivation for their work in high school.
