KSD eSpotlight
Sunday, November 1
Dear KSD Families,
As we look ahead toward fall and winter break, we know that many people may be making plans to travel or spend time with close family and friends. We are taking every precaution and implementing two days of virtual instruction for all Kirkwood students following the Thanksgiving holiday. These two days of virtual engagement for students participating in in-person learning will allow for extra days of isolation before students return to school on Wednesday, December. 2.
November 2020 School Engagement Calendar and Changes
Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24
In-person and At-Home learning for all students grades K-12
Wednesday, November 25
NO SCHOOL - For Students
Thursday, Nov 26 and 27
Schools and District Closed
Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1
All K-12 Students In-Person Learning will engage in synchronous (virtual) learning. School principals will provide additional details.
K-5 At-Home Learning and 6-12 Virtual Learning Schedule does not change.
These changes are designed to provide members of our school community with additional time to self-isolate and monitor themselves for potential COVID-19 symptoms. Strategically scheduling virtual instruction allows us to create a window after typically high travel times to isolate students and staff at home and prevent COVID-19 spread in our Kirkwood community.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support. We will continue to look ahead and evaluate the school calendar as we work to keep our Kirkwood community safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Ulrich
Superintendent of Schools
COVID 19 Travel Considerations

COVID-19 Travel Considerations
If you are thinking about traveling for the holidays, be sure to take measures to protect yourself, your family, and others around you. COVID-19 is an international pandemic, and traveling can put people at greater risk of getting sick.
Before you travel, here are a few things to consider:
How much COVID-19 is spreading where you are going and how much it is spreading in your local community
Whether you or someone you are traveling with could get very sick (considered high-risk) from COVID-19
How easy or difficult it will be to keep 6 feet between people whether in route or at your final destination
What your return to work or school may look like if you get sick or exposed to a risk of isolation
If you choose to travel, take the following steps:
Clean your hands often with soap and water, hand sanitizer, or disinfecting wipes.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Keep 6 feet of space between yourself and others.
Wear a mask. (Carry additional masks)
Cover coughs and sneezes.
Bring enough of your medications to last the entire trip.
Consider packing food or picking up food from the store, drive-throughs, or curbside pickup.
For additional information on traveling see CDC: Travel during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Considerations for Large Gatherings
St. Louis County Department of Public Health
Large Gatherings
As the holiday season approaches, be sure to keep yourself and those around you safe by avoiding large crowds or gatherings. In communities where there may be events of this nature, please consider the following:
A gathering refers to a planned or spontaneous event, indoors or outdoors, with a small number of people participating or a large number of people in attendance such as a community event or gathering, concert, festival, conference, parade, wedding, or sporting event.
The more people an individual interacts with at a gathering and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and COVID-19 spreading.
The higher the level of community transmission in the area that the gathering is being held, the higher the risk of COVID-19 spreading during a gathering.
The size of an event or gathering should be determined based on state, local, territorial or tribal safety laws and regulations.
Organizers of any large, public gathering must submit a COVID-19 safety plan to DPH. Unless the plan is approved, the gathering is not permitted. Email to business-covid@stlouisco.com
