Wayne County is located in the coastal plains of NC. The counties that surround Wayne County are Wilson, Duplin, Johnston, Sampson, Lenoir, and Greene County. Wayne County was founded in 1779 and is named for Anthony Wayne.


Goldsboro is the county seat for Wayne County. Wayne County has 7 Board of Commissioners and they meet in Goldsboro. The Interim County Manager is George Wood (picture). The Mayor of Goldsboro is Mayor Alfonso "Al" King. The City Council is the legislative body of the city. The Mayor and members of the City Council are elected to a 4-year term.
