Undefeated and it feels so good!; FSA’s Middle School History Team dominates at the 2020 Northern Georgia High School History Bee and Bowl Tournament--Weston B. brings home silver
FSA’s Middle School History Team, Eshaan B. (6th), Alexander R. (7th) and Weston B. (8th), remained unbeatable at the Northern GA High School History Bee and Bowl Tournament on February 22, 2020, in Calhoun, GA. FSA’s team maintained a remarkable 6-0 record competing in the junior varsity division, beating all three teams in the mourning rounds as well as the afternoon rounds.
In the JV History Bee, the top five students who scored the most points after three rounds, consisting of thirty questions each, proceeded to the semi-final rounds. Weston B. and Eshaan B. advanced to the semifinal rounds that were so intensely close that a support animal (a cow named Burger) assisted in calming the dramatic students. Weston B. earned the highest score after the two semifinal rounds; he advanced into the final round with two other students. Weston and a tenth-grade opponent remained tied throughout most of the final round, until Weston lost by one point, earning himself a silver medal.

Middle School Model UN Team Wins Again!
The Middle School Model UN team travelled to Savannah to compete in the 22nd Annual Coastal Georgia Middle School United Nations Conference hosted by Georgia Southern University. The conference began with Opening Statements to the entire Assembly by Varsha and Isra. Following the opening statements, delegates broke into smaller groups to debate proposed resolutions. FSA students representing various countries debated issues related to women’s rights and climate change.
A few moments before lunch, delegates were informed of the “breaking news” that seismic activity consistent with an underground nuclear explosion in Iran had been detected. An emergency resolution was distributed just in time for the delegates to consider over lunch. Upon returning from lunch, the Iranian delegation (represented by FSA’s Logan and Vishruth), was called before the Security Council for questioning. During intense questioning, the delegation denied that Iran owned or tested any nuclear weapons. Following approval of the emergency resolution, it was back to regular business.
At the conclusion of the conference, awards were presented.

Pennies for Patients
Dear FSA Families,
Our Elementary Student Council members will be leading our school in efforts to raise money for Pennies for Patients, a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Our school has decided to take on blood cancer and our mission is to help raise money to find a cure. Be on the lookout for more information in the upcoming weeks that will allow your child to participate in this rewarding event that emphasizes the importance of social and emotional learning and gaining the experience of helping both children and adults in their fight against blood cancer.
We will kick off our fundraising efforts on Wednesday March 4th. On this day, your students are encouraged to donate $1.00 to dress as their HERO! This small donation will help to start our fundraising efforts and give our students an opportunity to recognize a hero of their own as we work towards becoming heroes together throughout this fundraiser!
What you need to know:
- Who? All FSA students are participating!
- What? Students will be coming home on Friday, February 28th with their own collection box and information about Pennies for Patients. Students should raise as much money as possible in their boxes OR online with our school donation website
- When? This fundraiser will continue from Friday, February 28 to Friday, March 20th
Dr. Seuss Day in Elementary! (March 2nd)
Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day, is a yearly observance in the USA inaugurated by the NEA (National Education Association). It is held on the school day that is nearest to March 2nd, Dr Seuss' birthday. Theodor Seuss Geisel was an American artist, book publisher, animator, poet, a political cartoonist as well as an author. He is best known for authoring over 60 children’s books.
On Monday, March 2nd we will enjoy a full day of fun to celebrate one of our favorite authors... Dr. Seuss! Our elementary (PK-5th grade) students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character. However, this is optional. If they are not dressing up as a character, they must be in uniform.
Each grade level will participate in their own activities centered around the stories written by Dr. Seuss, paired with fun and engaging activities.
