Hawks Rock @ Podcasting
You probably didn’t know it, but Horizon 8th graders have been recording a morning podcast for the first time ever. It is called the Hawks Rock Morning Podcast and it is played every morning during the beginning of first period. During the podcast, students lead us through the pledge, announce the daily birthdays, tell us what’s for lunch, deliver us sporting news as well as breaking news. It’s fun, informative and a great, authentic learning experience. Recently students have been adding additional podcast content where they discuss topics that interest them. One episode you can listen to is “Inside the Numbers” where Jamie and Hunter talk about the Russell Wilson trade and the NFL draft. Another episode to check out is “Covid’s Impact on Teens” where Kailan and Alaina discuss different ways Covid affected their own lives as well as teens across the country. To listen to the Hawks Rock podcast episodes, you can have your child click on the link in Google Classroom or you can follow us on Spotify and then we will always be located in your library. We encourage you to give it a listen to not only gain more information about what’s going on at Horizon, but also to hear what an amazing job our students are doing creating these podcasts. Click on this Spotify link to listen to our podcast episodes. If you click “follow,” our podcast channel will be added to your library. Thanks and happy listening.
Girls Who Code is a national non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging young women in the fields of computer science.
Our Club met during the month of March and together built friendships and empowered one another around the GWC mission: values diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential to our mission.
We deepened our understanding of Scratch, Python and introduced the club to JavaScript as well.
What an incredible turnout and an amazing experience for all the girls! Mrs. Bayle
