A Note from Mrs. Nichols
Dear Families,
We are ready for another GREAT week at Weaverville Elementary!
Here are some important reminders for the week:
- Mark your calendars for this year's "Holiday Meal" on November 16th. This year 3rd and 4th grade families can attend with their children on November 16th. Please RSVP using this link so we can have an accurate estimate of how many non-students will be attending. www.tinyurl.com/wvesholidaymeal22. *Teachers will share specific lunch times with you as we get closer to the date.
- October 31st is Halloween, and students can dress up as their favorite book character. Please do not send students with "play" weapons (even if they are part of the costume), or masks that cover their face. This is also a 2-hour early dismissal, so make sure your child knows how they are getting home that day.
- Please be sure to meet with your child's teacher for a conference if you have not already.
- As the weather is changing, please remember to send warm layers for your child for recess. Playing outside is an important part of our students' day. We also have a lot of "Lost-and-Found" jackets near the cafeteria. If you'd like to check for your child's jacket, please sign in at the front office.
- Technology Damage Fees - We are starting to see some natural wear-and-tear on our devices for 3rd and 4th grades. For each repair request, our team has to determine if the device was damaged by basic "wear-and-tear" or if it was damaged accidentally, on purpose, or through neglect or inappropriate use. If a device was damaged by the student through inappropriate use or neglect, we will send an invoice to the family. Please talk with your child about taking very good care of their device, especially if we get to the point that devices are brought home.
- Eblen Charities Fundraiser is still happening! We've raised $493 for Eblen Charities so far. Way to go, Blackhawk Families!
- Donate spare change in a grade-level "Change War!" Donation buckets will be in the front office.
- Wear Wacky TACKY DAY on Wednesday and donate $1 to participate.
- Purchase a $1 "Pumpkin" (Paper!) with your name on it to hang in our school through October.
Have a great week!

Volunteer Information
Here are some clarifications about Level 1 and Level 2 Volunteer Requirements:
- Here's the BCS Volunteer Website with a link to the Volunteer Tracker.
- All volunteer applications are completed on the BCS Volunteer Tracker. When you go to the tracker to complete the application, indicate if you're interested in Level 1 or Level 2. The requirements change depending on what you choose. The Level 2 requirements are more in-depth regarding your background check.
- If you're planning to go on a field trip with your child, we're asking that you are Level 2. It might take a little while for the background check to run, so please do this as soon as you can. We also have a Volunteer Video we'll ask you to view. *This is the same presentation people attended in person with our WPS and WvES Counselors a couple of weeks ago.
- If you're ever working with students in our school without a staff member present (think, reading or math groups or something along those lines) we need for you to have a Level 2 Volunteer status.
- If you are unsure of your status, please email Ashley.Mendoza@bcsemail.org.
4th Grade Baby Pictures for Yearbook
Parents and Caregivers of 4th Grade Students,
It's already time for our school yearbook team to start working on the 22-23 yearbook! Every year we have several pages of yearbook devoted to fourth-grade students' baby photos. It's always so much fun for students and staff to guess who each student is!
If you would like your child to be included in this part of the yearbook, please email a BABY photo of your child to Karen Adair, WvES staff member. Her email is karen.adair@bcsemail.org.
If you are not able to scan or upload a photo for us, please let us know and we can do this for you in our front office. Go ahead and start searching for that favorite baby photo to send to us!
The deadline for accepting photos will be October 30th.
Ongoing Reminders
- Free/Reduced Lunch Application: www.lunchapplication.com
- Please do not check your child out between 1:55-2:55 so that we can have a safe and calm dismissal for students each day.
- Please always let us know in writing if there is a transportation change for your child.
- Please let us know by 1:00 pm if you are changing your child's regular dismissal procedure.

COVID Updated Protocols
If a student tests positive for COVID (at home or at a healthcare provider), they would isolate for 5 days from when their symptoms began. We will recognize the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS regarding the use of a face covering to be worn for days 6-10 upon return to school.
Our normal exclusionary symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting are in effect. If a student has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they must remain at home until symptoms are resolved for 24 hours.
Hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning protocols, and improved ventilation are all still priorities and important mitigating strategies.
Face coverings remain optional, to be worn by anyone at anytime.
Physical distancing such as 3 ft or 6 ft apart is no longer required.
Contact tracing is not required.
Following the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS, MAHEC will not be providing rapid antigen testing in our schools. Staff and families may order at home tests for free via this link: https://www.covid.gov/tests.
MAHEC will send home further guidance regarding when students need to stay home due to an illness.
For students where an absence is Covid related please indicate this in your parent or health provider's note.
Students/teachers will follow the same guidelines for makeup work as they would for any other illness or injury.
