The Weekly Update #4
September 16th, 2023

Principal's Update
This week the state released the district report card that shows where Strongsville City Schools performed, for the 22-23 school year, on end of course testing. While I know Dr. Ryba sent the districts report card we also receive a building report card for academic performance. I am very proud of the amazing teachers, students, and parents that contribute to the excellence that we have come to expect at SHS. Strongsville high school was rated 5/5 stars overall and 5/5 stars in every academic area. Our only imperfection was a 4/5 starts in graduation rate. All 6 of SHS' tested areas showed the maximum amount of growth, History, Geometry, Algebra, and Biology were more than double what it took to get the highest growth score possible. Congratulations to the team and SHS community for the amazing results. We met the standard of significantly exceeds growth for every subgroup at SHS including gifted, disabled, economically disadvantaged, as well as every single subgroup of student.
This is a great time for parents and teachers to have the ability to communicate 1:1 in order to better support all of our students to be successful. We are looking forward to having our parents in the building those days.
PSAT will be given on October 11th. On that day only students that take the PSAT will be in attendance. Students who don't take the PSAT will be in an Asynchronous learning day. They will be doing school work from home. Teachers will be having students do assignments at home that day. For those students who are taking the PSAT transportation will run as normal. If the student is done with the PSAT they can leave for the day. If they need to stay for the remainder of the day to ride the bus they will have to be in the study hall. Polaris classes will run as normal and their busses will also run as normal. When Polaris students are not in class that day they don't need to attend SHS.
Homecoming is on 9/30. I am including a picture of a QR code where you can purchase tickets.
Here are some FAQs from our Student Council Advisor Mrs. Buchwald:
Homecoming is right around the corner and I wanted to share the information with you!
Attached you will find the QR code available to students for ticket purchase.
They will be posted in the cafeteria and media center as well.
**To access their ticket they must use their student ID.
Most common questions that students may ask you:
1. "Why doesn't my student ID work to purchase a ticket?!"
Answer: Oftentimes it's because they may have a fee unpaid. Please have them come see me.(Mrs. Buchwald)
2. "Why don't I have access to another ticket to purchase for my date?!"
Answer: Because they likely do not have a guest form filled out and processed by me. Please have them come and see me to pick up a form.
3. Any other potential question
Answer: Please go to announcements on the HS webpage to watch and review.

ACT Prep Class - Next Level Prep
Change your life! Gain admission to the college of your dreams & obtain more scholarship money. Learn how to score higher on the ACT!
Premium, Cost-Effective ACT Preparation
Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 7:45 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.
Strongsville High School
Test-optional college admissions is quickly disappearing! This fall hundreds of U.S. colleges and universities are returning to test-required or test-recommended admissions—with even more indicating that 2023 will be their last year for the test-optional experiment. To be sure, selective colleges, special programs, and scholarship providers see a student’s performance on the SAT or ACT as a highly critical factor in their evaluation of that student’s academic prowess. In short, in a post-COVID world, college entrance exams are regaining their importance.
Our six-hour preparation seminar helps demystify the ACT by explaining
--the test’s structure,
--the academic content covered on it, &
--testing & time management strategies students can employ to maximize their performance.
Students learn specific, tangible strategies to answer more questions correctly, how to decipher questions designed to thwart
their performance, & specific academic content that is regularly tested on the ACT.
Each participant gets
--six hours of live, engaging, interactive instruction,
--a guided outline of strategies to approach the ACT,
--a comprehensive, 400-page, reference workbook,
--online access to over 1000 additional practice test questions,
--a 5-week ACT study plan, &
--free, live, phone-in, pre-test tutoring,
.
Next Level Prep is a national leader in SAT & ACT preparation. We currently work with over 100 high schools here in Ohio alone &
thousands of students (urban, suburban, & small town/rural) each year in states around the country. Our typical students see a 2.0 composite point increase on the ACT after taking our seminar.
Our engaging instructors consistently score 94%-plus A ratings on student evaluations. So, students emerge justifiably confident—with decidedly less anxiety—about their prospects on the test.
