QUOTE FOR THE PRINCIPAL'S JOURNEY
"I am pleased to extend my personal congratulations to each of you upon your selection to Missouri Scholars 100. I also want to congratulate the parents, principals, teachers and the communities of these outstanding students. Being named to The Missouri Scholars 100 is a great honor. It says you are among the best and brightest in this state. As Governor and throughout my life--education has always been important to me."

Update From the Executive Director
Welcome to the Last Friday in April
I can't believe April is almost gone. Finally, great spring weather. We certainly deserve these beautiful days. These are busy days (and nights) for principals. Many of you will have prom this weekend and then make the drive to Columbia on Sunday for the 25th Annual Missouri Scholars 100 Celebration as you support your student(s). We appreciate you!
Legislative News From Jeff City
With the last day of the session approaching (May 17), legislators are dealing with a host of bills and amendments, flooding, budgets, and yes, education. The Missouri Senate passed a $30 billion budget for the 2020 fiscal year beginning in July. Now, budget negotiations will begin between the House and Senate conference committee. We are pleased with the proposed education budget amounts as follows:
- $3.5 billion for the formula used to fully fund Missouri’s K through 12 public schools
- This is a $62 million increase over the current year.
- A K-12 school transportation budget of $112 million – an increase of $10 million more than the current year.
Other education bills discussed this last week are as follows:
- school start date (HB 161), (MoASSP opposes)
- the education ethics bill (HB 445)
- the mandatory reading intervention bill (SB 349)
- Charter School Expansion (SB 292 and HB 485) (MoASSP opposes)
Be ready this next week as we activate once again the MoASSP Action Center for you to contact legislators opposing school start date bill and charter school expansion bill.
Regional Meetings & Recognitions
Doug and I visited South Central MoASSP meeting this past week in St. James. South Central announced their Regional Principal of the Year winners. We will recognize all of the award winners during the 85th Annual Fall Conference September 29-October 1 where all roads lead to Columbia.

LETTER FROM MOTHER & PRINCIPAL
The "Letter from Mother," I have used many times during this time of the year. Written by a mother sending her son off to kindergarten for the first time, this letter reminds all of us of the special relationship that families and schools share. As parents, remember how difficult it was to send our children off to kindergarten for the first time. To trust others to take up the task for us. As parents, we have been given much, and much is expected of our schools. That trust between home and school is our highest priority. The letter from the principal was written many years ago by Dr. Robert C. Howe. Both letters capture all of the emotions that are wrapped up during this season of graduation. Clark Mershon
