Happy Thanksgving!
A Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends. We have had much to be thankful for in our Library this fortnight with author visits, new books, and parent help. We've looked at some of the things we are thankful for in some our library classes as we've read 'Thanksgiving is for thanks' by Margaret Sutherland. Parents you'll be pleased to know that you are still top of your children's list when they give thanks!
On Wednesday 7th November 2018, the students of years 4, 5 & 6 were treated to a reading of the Pangu Comic book series created by author Martha Keswick. The children were entertained by the Mandarin readings with English translation, as she introduced the escapades of Lily and Kai and of course the legendary Pangu. Each session was unique and the students involved were quite engaged with their questions. It was lovely to hear Martha encouraging students to persevere in their learning of Chinese, motivating them with the reminder that if they keep at it they would be better Chinese speakers than she is!
The 4th Annual Golden Dragon Book Awards
Over the next couple of months we will be reading the books shown below. The children will be actively involved in reviewing and commenting on these books, before they are then voted for in February. All the children will be voting for their favourite book in each category. There is a good range of books again this year and I am sure it's going to be hard to choose when it comes to time for the voting.
Parent Volunteers in the Library.
About 10 parents came to the library for a 'Book wrapping tea' on the afternoon of Friday 10th November. The atmosphere was quite festive with all the conversations and books being wrapped. This working party made a phenomenal contribution to the library by covering about 60 books in contact paper. The books are already flying off the shelves and we are so thankful for our volunteers who cover books for the library every week.
We'll be holding a Christmas themed book wrapping morning soon - please let the library know if you are interested in joining our Whatsapp group of library volunteers, contact details are listed below.
