Happy Holidays
December 12, 2019
Dear La Mariposa Families,
During this holiday season, I’m reminded of a quote by Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." I have seen so much good and giving this year, it is inspiring. I am fortunate to be at La Mariposa, where our families give so much of their time to make La Mariposa great and our teachers give so much of themselves to make sure our students are getting everything they need to be happy and successful in their learning. I am also thankful for our teacher's aides, office staff, and campus supervisors. La Mariposa would not be the school it is without their dedication. Our district-wide Stuff-a-Bus campaign is coming along nicely and we hope to fill a bus with canned goods for families in need. Thank you for helping our students learn about giving to others during this holiday season. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
The Book Fair was a great success. Thank you for your support of this wonderful fundraiser, which provides reading books for every classroom.
We have great news. The California School Dashboard has published our school ratings and we did an outstanding job. We scored in the highest performance category academically. Our attendance has also improved significantly. Thank you for making sure you get your kids here every day. If we can get the attendance to improve a little more, we may qualify to enter La Mariposa as a "Distinguished School" next year. You can access the Dashboard results on our school website under the "Facts and Reports" tab. Click here to view now. I'm very proud of the work this entire team did to ensure our students performed so well.
We highly recommend that your child reads at least twenty minutes a day during the break, so they will come back ready to learn. Thank you for everything you do on a daily basis to help your child succeed.
These cold mornings and warm afternoons added up to plenty of Lost and Found items again, so please do not forget to pick them up. All remaining items will be donated to a local charity on Friday, December 20th.
Our lost and found items are going to be displayed out front on our new "lost and found" cart that was made by our Eagle Scouts. We are very thankful to them for making this for us along with eight new benches. They are beautiful.
Rainy days are here, so please drive safe in the parking lot. In the drive-thru lane, follow our hand gestures for stop and go. If you do not pull up all the way to the end, you hold up the entire line. Your kids should be ready to jump out by the time your car stops. Thank you for your consideration. We want everyone to be safe and to arrive on time.
If you are picking your child up early from school, please let your child's teacher know so they can prepare for your child's departure. Also consider, that if the children are outside when the parent arrives and we are unaware of an early pickup, it takes a very long to find the child and obtain their belongings. It also takes us away from watching the kids outside, which is an obvious problem.
Please remember that we do not do gift exchanges at school unless the entire class is included. We don't want any hurt feelings this holiday season.
Winter break begins on Friday, December 20th and school will be out from December 20th until Tuesday, January 7th. Monday, January 6th is a "Staff Development Day", so don't forget that school is not back in session until Tuesday.
I wish you and your family a peaceful and joyous winter break. I am looking forward to the new year with the best kids any principal could hope for.
Warmest Wishes,
Justine Wienken
