This year's freshmen class will have the opportunity to explore S.E. Hinton's powerful coming of age novel, The Outsiders. The Outsiders, published over 40 years ago, continues to be one of the most popular young adult novels of all time. The author, S.E. Hinton, wrote the book when she was just 17 and living in Oklahoma.

The New Yorker recently published this article about S.E. Hinton and her use of Twitter to connect with fans despite the fact that she remains an extremely private public figure. Another article in the New York Times examines how Hinton borrowed literary themes from classic works that she was likely reading in high school. She wrote The Outsiders when she was 15. Vanity Fair magazine interviews Hinton about her latest adult book as well as her advice to her younger self.
