Developing FY25 GPS Budget
This link will take you to the FY25 GPS Budget Book.
For FY25, our budgetary strategy is to optimize the funds available to us and to supplement these funds with resources from existing revolver accounts (e.g., school choice, transportation fees, facility rentals, Circuit Breaker, etc.) at an unprecedented level to sustain a level-service budget for FY25. Basically, revolver funds are not typically used to pay for ongoing operational expenses such as salaries. Due to the need in the upcoming school year, we will be using revolver funds to cover operational costs.
In June 2020, the town approved an override intended to adequately fund operational services within Grafton for five years. FY25 marks the culmination of this five-year period. I foresee the budget for FY25 to be demanding, with the additional capacity afforded by the successful override mostly depleted as we enter year five. The school department's budget for FY25 is set at $45,034,624, representing a 3.7% increase ($1,606,828) over FY24. In FY25, we anticipate depleting all reserves to an unprecedented level to maintain our commitment to excellence in education. Entering the fifth year post-override, it's evident that the town must consider another override in 2025 for fiscal year 2026 and beyond. More information will come as we work with the town administrator and select board to advocate for our schools’ needs. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Senior Spotlight
Abhi Sood's Inspiring Journey at Grafton High School
In this edition of our senior spotlight, we shine a light on Abhi Sood, a distinguished member of Grafton High School's Class of 2024. Abhi's journey through high school has been characterized by his active involvement in a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs, both within and outside the school campus.
Throughout his four years at Grafton High, Abhi has been a dedicated member of the Track and Cross Country teams, where he not only showcased his athletic prowess but also forged lifelong friendships and cherished memories. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Abhi's academic excellence earned him membership in prestigious organizations such as the National Honor Society, Computer Science Honor Society, and Model UN. Balancing these commitments has taught Abhi invaluable lessons in time management and prioritization, shaping him into a well-rounded individual poised for success beyond high school.
Reflecting on his high school journey, Abhi fondly recalls a cherished tradition shared with friends on the first day of school. Watching the sunrise together symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter and serves as a poignant reminder of the camaraderie and support that Abhi has found among his peers.
Among the many influential figures who have left a lasting impact on Abhi's life, his English teacher, Mr. Carew, stands out. In his class, Abhi not only had fun learning but also felt supported in his transition from elementary to middle school. Mr. Carew's guidance and encouragement helped him become a more mature and responsible student. His impact extends far beyond the classroom, shaping his path toward independence and academic success.
Looking ahead to the future, Abhi plans to pursue higher education at a four-year university, with aspirations of majoring in computer science and minoring in mathematics. His ultimate goal is to venture into the field of quantitative finance, using his strong academic abilities and analytical skills to make a significant difference.
In offering advice to underclassmen and incoming freshmen, Abhi encourages them to embrace new experiences and step out of their comfort zones. He emphasizes the transformative power of high school and encourages his peers to seize every opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
And as for his habitual morning sprint to school, Abhi's response reflects his adventurous spirit and zest for life. Living on the edge, he finds excitement in the rush of making it to school just in time.
Abhi's journey at Grafton High School is a testament to his resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit. As he prepares to embark on the next chapter of his life, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for a future filled with success and fulfillment.
Math Curriculum Update
The District is excited to announce that through a thorough pilot process, Illustrative Math, published by Imagine Learning, has been selected as the instructional resource for grades 6-12. Use will commence in the 24-25 school year. In preparation, teachers will participate in professional development prior to the start of the next school year. They are also working in collaborative vertical teams to revise the alignment of the Massachusetts Frameworks for Mathematics. Illustrative was chosen over other options because it not only meets the Massachusetts criteria for High Quality Instructional Resources but also provides greater equity in access to college and career pathways in math.
School Spotlight: Grafton Middle School
GMS is Empowering Students and Teachers
Grafton Middle School students recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to Quebec and Montreal, Canada. Immersed in the vibrant culture and language, they practiced their French skills by conversing with locals and exploring the cities. From visiting a traditional sugar shack to tobogganing down snowy slopes, the trip was not only fun but also provided valuable insights into French language and culture. Special thanks to Mr. Aaron Covert for making this enriching experience possible for our students.
In line with GMS's commitment to respect and inclusion, impactful Bullying Education and Prevention Workshops were held for students. Through interactive sessions, students gained awareness, empathy, and practical tools to address bullying situations. They actively engaged in discussions, created skits, and pledged to be upstanders, fostering a supportive school community. These workshops, spearheaded by dedicated educators, are expected to leave a lasting positive impact.
The school spirit soared as the undefeated GMS Girls and Boys Basketball teams faced off against a determined staff team in a thrilling Staff vs. Student Basketball Game. Amid cheers and groans, both teams showcased impressive skills, culminating in a nail-biting finish. While the student team emerged victorious, the event celebrated camaraderie and talent, thanks to Mrs. Paige Cooper's coordination.
And finally, GMS teachers are embracing the future with a groundbreaking professional development session on integrating AI in the classroom. Equipped with AI-powered tools, teachers gain superpowers to personalize learning experiences, spark creativity, and streamline communication. This initiative heralds a new era of innovation and engagement at Grafton Middle School.
