The mission of the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Department is to build independence in all preschool students to enable them to reach their full potential in preparation for kindergarten.

Congratulations to Miss Erin!!!
SSD’s 2021 Teacher of the Year, is a semi-finalist for the 2023 Missouri Teacher of the Year Award!
“I am honored to be recognized as a teacher who is dedicated to improving student success as well as being passionate about teaching young students with hearing loss,” said Hemme. “In fact, I consider myself to represent many teachers in the field of education who are passionate about teaching students of all ages.”
Hemme is one of 17 regional teachers selected by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The process began with 34 outstanding teachers across the state of Missouri.
This is a well deserved honor. Miss Erin is a fantastic teacher and we are so happy to know that she is being recognized for all of her hard work!
Family Leadership Institute (FLI)
The highly successful SSD Parent Leadership Institute that has had more than 280 participants since 2007 is once again being offered under a new name of Family Leadership Institute (FLI).
The Institute will be Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:30pm at SSD Central Office:

- October 19, 2022
- October 26, 2022 and
- November 2, 2022
If you are a parent or family member who makes the educational decisions for a child with a disability, investing the time to attend these four Wednesday evening sessions will provide:
